Elemental Chaos. The dragons is a whirl of magical and chaotic energies that take on the form of a dragon. Each time the dragon deals chaos damage, roll a d10 in order to determine the type of elemental damage that it deals.

1: Fire, 2: Cold, 3: Lightning, 4: Acid, 5: Psychic, 6: Force, 7: Radiant. 8: Necrotic, 9: Poison, 10: Thunder

Actions

Multiattack. The dragon makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (3d8 + 4) chaos damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) chaos damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) chaos damage.

Chaos Breath (Recharge 4–6). The dragon exhales a blast of chaotic energy in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 25 (6d8) chaos damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Legendary Actions

The dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Tail Attack. The dragon makes a tail attack.

Chaos Explosion (Costs 2 Actions). The dragon beats its wings, and chaotic energies swell around it. Each creature within 10 feet of the dragon must succeed on a DC 22 Dexterity saving throw or take 15 (2d6 + 8) chaos damage and be knocked prone. The dragon can then fly up to half its flying speed.

Chaos Bolt (Costs 2 Actions). The dragon shoots forth a bolt of energy at 1 creature within 60ft of it. The dragon makes on ranged attack roll (+7 to hit). On a hit, the target takes 3d8 chaos damage.

Lair and Lair Actions

A Chaos Dragon’s Lair

Chaos dragons lair in realms made of chaos. They are extremely rare to find outside of the realms of chaos. Often placed as guardians within these chaos realms.

A legendary chaos dragon’s innate link to chaos can have an impact on any magic that is cast in the area around its lair. Magical spells can often have an additional effect (roll of 1 on a d20). Magic users that already have an element of chaos about their magic see this exacerbated (roll 1 on a d6)

A chaos dragon often rests on high vantage points or buried within the floor in its lair. The floor around it is a treacherous expanse of broken stone, hidden and pits (difficult terrain). As foes struggle to move toward it, the dragon flies from perch to perch and destroys them with its chaos breath weapon.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Jagged shards of chaos rain from the skies, striking up to three creatures that the dragon can see within 120 feet of it. The dragon makes one ranged attack roll (+7 to hit) against each target. On a hit, the target takes 10 (3d6) chaos damage.
  • The dragon glimpses the future, so it has advantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws until initiative count 20 on the next round.
  • There is a huge gust of wind, followed by a tremor that shakes the lair in a 60-foot radius around the dragon. Each creature other than the dragon on the ground in that area must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be pushed back 20ft, followed by a  DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
