Burst. The goon balloon bursts when it drops to 0 hit points, releasing noxious gas in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on itself. Creatures in that area must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. A poisoned creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Unusual Nature. The goon balloon doesn’t require air, food, or drink.
Multiattack. The goon balloon makes two Claw attacks.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) slashing damage.
Scintillating Eye. Magical, kaleidoscopic light emanates from one of the goon balloon’s eyes as the goon balloon targets one creature it can see within 30 feet of itself. The target must make a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw, taking 6 (1d12) psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Float. The goon balloon moves up to 20 feet vertically in one direction without provoking opportunity attacks. If it ends this movement suspended in the air, it hovers in place. It can’t be knocked prone while airborne.
Description
A goon balloon looks like a 5-foot-diameter beach ball with clawed feet. Unblinking eyes on the outer surface of its spherical air sac enable the creature to see in all directions at once. These eyes can produce kaleidoscopic light that tears at the minds of the goon balloon’s foes.
A goon balloon speaks by pumping air through a hidden orifice on its underside. When the goon balloon dies, the air in its sac transforms into a noxious gas that bursts from the corpse, potentially poisoning other creatures nearby.
Although they can seem playful and harmless, goon balloons are quite mean-spirited. They like to observe the suffering of other creatures and orchestrate that suffering, given half a chance.
GOON BALLOON
size medium? 5 foot diameter? thought it was cute at first, now it's terrifying
LOOK OUT FOR THAT SENTRY BUSTER!
This would be a cool familliar, I might ask my DM to let me have one at some point.
…
my DM just got this book and found this monster and wouldnt stop laughing at it
we all joined in and had a good time but its been like twelve sessions now and he keeps bringing it up and making us fight them whenever we do combat
no matter where we are or who we are fighting, at least one goon balloon manages to show up
for context, we are doing a sort of fantasy noir thriller political intrigue type game where we are fighting monsters who are politicians and crime bosses most of the time, trying to solve murders and stuff like that
its not a big deal mechanically? but last session we were fighting an ancient black dragon and like seven of these things rose out of the water mid fight as a lair action and its just getting really boring/annoying at this point
like i get its a goofy little guy and funny looking and all that but this campaign was a pretty serious one before this and besides the goon balloon swarms still has a lot of tension and drama in the roleplaying and story
im kinda just at a lose because all of our combats have become kinda a joke now with all these guys running around and it really slows down playing for him to take all their turns too
im not sure what to do but i figured i might come here and ask for some advice? im really at a lose, its really kinda grating to have to deal with so many of these monsters all the time and its kinda killing the mood for this otherwise gritty and dark adventure
Hmm. A swarm of these should accompany Belashyrra at all times, enabling her to use their panoramic vision to maximize her ability to use other creatures' eyes to shoot her eye rays.
Have 16 of these suckers hovering on the ceiling, as soon as players walk in, have all of them use Scintillating Eye on one player.
They can also drop from the ceiling, taking enough fall damage to burst, poisoning the players.
I love gooning
