Barb. Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 25/100 ft., one target. Hit: 2 (1d4) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw, taking 7 (2d6) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Reactions

The crushing pincers of a carcass crab are its greatest weapon. Creatures held in its claws are dragged towards the creature’s mouth, which is strong enough to bite but awkwardly positioned. If enemies keep their distance or attempt to attack it from the air, it can fling sharp shards of shell at them. These pieces of shell are impregnated with a tetanus-like disease, which rapidly causes muscular paralysis and lockjaw. The detritus glued to a carcass crab serves as a potent defense, both protecting it from blows and stabbing at those that successfully strike it.

Description

Carcass crabs are scavenging creatures found in ruined lands, especially necropolises and battlefields. They pick over the dying and the dead, eating savory morsels of flesh and gluing the less edible pieces to their shell with sticky saliva. Some carcass crabs seem to have a sense of fashion and prefer particular types of weapons and armor as decoration, whereas others merely go for whatever is most convenient. This saliva crumbles rapidly on the death of the carcass crab, and gear can be pried from its carcass with only a token effort (although it should likely be thoroughly cleaned). If easy prey is hard to come by, or if someone competes for the gear they attempt to collect, carcass crabs will happily attack live game.

Lair and Lair Actions
