Fungal Infection. The soldier has lost their mind to the fungal infection, there is no more space for different mind-altering effects. The Twisted Soldier has immunity to charm and frighten effects.
Improved Hearing. The infection's effect on the soldier actually improved their original perception of sound. The Twisted Soldier has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on listening.
Ocular Overgrowth. The fungal infection destroyed the soldier's eyes, forcing it to rely on its other senses to travers Fungyss. The Twisted Soldier is blind. Any effects that target the Twisted Soldier that rely on the creature's ability to see have no effect.
Fungal Burst (Recharge 5-6). The Twisted Soldier becomes overwhelmed with paranoia, and the ocular and aural blue spores burst forth towards its enemies, bringing that same dreadful feeling with them. Any creature within a 10ft radius of the Twisted Soldier must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or suffer from the frightened condition until the end of the Twisted Soldiers next turn.
Weapon Attack. The Twisted Soldier makes one attack with its Halberd.
Halberd. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., 1 target. Hit: 8 (1d10 + 3) slashing damage.
Myconic Recovery. The infection of the Twisted Soldier allows the body to fight beyond its limits. As a bonus action, the Twisted Soldier can regain 1d10+2 HP, as the fungus tightens its hold on the host, reinvigorating it. This bonus action can only be used once until the next dawn.
Defending Strike. Other creatures provoke an opportunity attack with the Twisted Soldier's halberd when they enter its reach, and on a successful hit the creature's speed is reduced to 0 until the start of its next turn.
Description
The Twisted Soldier was once a well-respected human adventurer, before becoming infected by a paranoia-inducing fungal infection in Fungyss. Their mind is corrupted by a constant state of suspicion and dread, perceiving anything as a threat, even old friends. The creature retains most of its previous appearance, keeping the familiarities of their race, however closer inspection would reveal the effects of the infection over the eyes and ears, helping to twist sensations into things to be hostile of. The ocular infection removed vision from the soldier, however the aural infection improved its sense of hearing, allowing the creature to stumble its way through the pitch-black corridors of Fungyss with more ease.
