Amphibious. The dragon can breathe air and water.
Stench. Any creature other than a dung dragon or otyugh that starts its turn or ends its movement within 15 feet of the dung dragon must succeed on a DC 18 Charisma saving throw or spend their turn reeling and throwing up.
Multiattack. The dragon makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) acid damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage. Creatures hit by the claws must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be inflicted with green slime.
Sewage Breath (Recharge 4–6). The dragon exhales fecal slime in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 42 (12d6) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Those who failed their save are also poisoned and blind due to the severe toxicity of the fumes. These conditions last until the end of their next round.
Description
The most disgusting and foul of true dragons, dung dragons use waste and excrement to get the upper hand against their enemies. A dung dragon is recognized by the spines that begins near its jaws and continues down its neck, reaching full length just behind the shoulders.
It is often said, "You can smell the beat of it's wings!" which may not be true but there is no mistaking the toxic stench of a dung dragon.
Lair and Lair Actions
The sewage-loving dung dragons sometimes compete for territory with otyugh. However, a sewer controlled by a dung dragon is easy to spot. A perpetual fog hangs in the air in a dung dragon’s cesspit, carrying a putrid smell of the creature’s fecal breath.
As the center of its domain, a dung dragon chooses a place downstream of cities. Some seek out cave mouths concealed under city sewage systems, or partly submerged caverns that can be accessed through lakes or streams. Above ground or below, cities are easy sources for the sewage these dragons love.
Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- Grasping tentacles of mud erupt in a 20-foot radius centered on a point on the ground that the dragon can see within 100 feet of it. That area becomes difficult terrain, and each creature there must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be restrained by the tentacles A creature can be freed if it or another creature takes an action to make a DC 15 Strength check and succeeds. The tentacles flow away when the dragon uses this lair action again or when the dragon dies.
- A wall of mud, sewage, and dung rises into existence on a solid surface within 100 feet of the dragon. The wall is up to 50 feet long, 10 feet high, and 5 feet thick, and it blocks line of sight. When the wall appears, each creature in its area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. A creature that fails the save takes 18 (4d8) acid damage and is pushed 5 feet out of the wall’s space, appearing on whichever side of the wall it wants. A creature can move through the wall, albeit slowly and painfully. For every 1 foot a creature travels through the wall, it must spend 4 feet of movement. Furthermore, a creature in the wall’s space must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw once each round it’s in contact with the wall, taking 18 (4d8) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Each 10-foot section of wall has AC 5, 15 hit points, vulnerability to fire damage, resistance to bludgeoning and piercing damage, and immunity to psychic damage. The wall sinks back into the ground when the dragon uses this lair action again or when the dragon dies.
Regional Effects
The region containing a legendary dung dragon’s lair is warped by the dragon’s magic, creating the following effect:
- Rodents and flies within 1 mile of the dragon’s lair serve as the dragon’s eyes and ears.
If the dragon dies, the rodents and flies lose their supernatural link to it.
