Traits

Ready to Fight. Illidan Stormrage has advantage on initiative rolls.

Hard to Counter. None of the spell or spell attack or the spell effect that Illidan Stormrage will do with his abilities can be countered or dispelled.

Phase switch. Illidan Stormrage can switch phases at any time under these condition:

  • Phase 0: Initial phase.
  • Phase 1: After losing 10% (855/950) of itial HP Illidan Stormrage will execute the Minion Summoning reaction. This reaction does not count as a normal reaction.
  • Phase 2: After losing 35% (618/950) of itial HP Illidan Stormrage will execute the Flying Disengage reaction. This reaction does not count as a normal reaction.
  • Phase 3: After 2 Illidan's turns in Phase 4 and having more than 70% (285/950) of HP. Illidan Stormrage will execute the Normal form reaction. This reaction does not count as a normal reaction.
  • Phase 4: After 2 Illidan's turns in Phase 3 or 5. Illidan Stormrage will execute the Demon form reaction. This reaction does not count as a normal reaction.
  • Phase 5: After 2 Illidan's turns in Phase 4 and having less than 70% (285/950) of HP. Illidan Stormrage will execute the Normal form reaction. This reaction does not count as a normal reaction. Maiev Shadowsong will join the battle.

Soft Enrage (Phase 5). At the beginning of this phase Illidan Stormrage will enrage. All the damage done by Illidan Stormrage augment by 50% and gains an attack on his multiattack ability. This buff can only be dispelled using a special trap placed by Maiev Shadowsong. This buff can endure in phase 4 if not dispelled.

Actions

Phase 0, 1, 3 and 5

Multiattack. Illidan Stormrage makes three attacks by the lists below. At least one Attack.

Attack. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit with one of the two weapon, roll two times, one creature. Hit: Illidan Stormrage attacks the nearest target with both his warglaives dealing 20 (2d12+8) slashing damage with the first weapon, 16 (2d8+8) slashing damage with the second one.

Shear. Spell debuff: one creature, touch. Illidan Stormrage applies a debuff on his main target. The target must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw having his max HP reduced by 60% for one turn on a failed save, or evading completely on a successful one.

Flame Crash. Melee attack: multiple creature, self, 10ft range. Illidan Stormrage jumps up in the air then quickly crashes down leaving blue flames on the ground. Any target in the area must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw taking 24 (4d8+8) bludgeoning damage and being knocked back by 15ft on a failed save, or only being knocked back on a successful one. Anyone who enters or starts the turn inside the blue flame patch takes 10 (2d10) fire damage. The patch lasts 10 turns or until the phase ends.

Parasitic Shadowfiend. Spell debuff: one creature, 60ft range. Illidan Stormrage applies a debuff on a random target. The target must make a DC 22 Constitution saving throw taking 16 (2d10+6) necrotic damage at the beginning of target's turn for two turn on a failed save, or evading completely on a successful one. Upon expiration of the debuff, 2 Parasitic Shadowfiends will spawn near the target.

Agonizing Flames. Usable only in phase 3 or phase 5. Spell attack: multiple creature, 60ft range, 15ft area. Illidan Stormrage applies blue flames in the air centered on a random target. Any target in the area must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw taking  21 (3d10+6) fire damage and suffering from a debuff that deals 25 (5d10) fire damage for 3 turns at the begining of affected creature's turn on a failed save, or taking only the direct damage on a successful one.


 Phase 2

Multiattack. Override of the multiattack ability only for this phase. Illidan Stormrage makes two Fireballs and an Eye Blast if able.

Fireball. Spell attack: one creature, 240ft range. Illidan Stormrage shoots a fireball against a creature or on a point in the terrain. Any target in a 15ft circular area must must make a DC 20 Dexterity saving throw taking 42 (12d6+6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Eye Blast. Illidan took away his bandana and looks at the terrain. A blue trail of demonic fire, 5ft wide, 60ft lenght will spawn in one random spot directed on a random direction for his lenght. Any creature that will be hitted by the creation of the demonic fire, takes 51 (15d6+6) necrotic damage. Any creature that steps into the demonic fire or ends the turn inside of it, takes 12 (3d8) fire damage. The demonic fire duration is 3 turns.


Phase 4

Multiattack. Override of the multiattack ability only for this phase. Illidan Stormrage can buff itself with one use of Aura of the Dread. Also it casts a Shadow Blast and a Flame Burst in any order or two Shadow Blasts.

Shadow Blast. Spell attack: multiple target, 10 ft area, +16 to hit. Illidan Stormrage shoots a Blast of Shadow energy, against the nearest creature. Other than the main target, any other creature hitted in a 10ft circular area will take 36 (10d6+6) necrotic damage.

Flame Burst. Spell attack: multiple target, 300 ft area. Illidan Stormrage emits a Flame Burst all around from himself to any creature around him in the area. Any creature in the area must make a DC 24 Dexterity saving throw, taking 36 (10d6+6) fire damage plus 21 (5d6+6) cold damage to any creature that is near to another one in a range of 15ft on a failed saving throw, half of the fire damage and none of the cold damage on a succesful one.

Aura of Dread: Illidan Stormrage irradiate an aura around himself that deals 3 (1d6) necrotic damage to any creature who enters or begin the turn in a 10 ft square near him. Also any necrotic damage done by Illidan Stormrage do an extra 9 (3d6) necrotic damage exluded the aura itself. The aura can be used only one time to each Phase 4 and is mantained with the change of Phase. Ilidan Stormrage can power up the Aura casting it again, in this case the damage inflicted by any effect of the Aura of Dread will increment by 1d6 necrotic damage for each power up done.

Reactions

Minion Summoning. Executable one time only after losing 10% of initial hp. Summons 8 random low level enemy (at your choice, tiny or medium size) all around the map. These minions only targets Akama and will be handled by him. When all these minions are dead, Akama can attack Illidan too, but the Soft Enrage trait cannot be dispelled anymore.

Flying Disengage. Executable one time only after losing 35% of initial hp. Illidan Stormrage flew away (no opportunity attacks given) and gaining immunity to all source of damages. Illidan Stormrage throws in the middle of the arena his two warglaives. From these two warglaives, two Flames of Azzinoth respectively will spawn at the east and ovest side of a circle sized 35ft centered in the middle of the arena. As soon as both the Flames of Azzinoth are killed, Illidan Stormrage descends from the sky entering in Phase 3. 

Demon form. Executable only in Phase 3 or 5. Illidan Stormrage become a demon executing special actions. When enters in this form will execute the Aura of Dread action.

Normal form. Executable only in Phase 4. Illidan Stormrage returns in its normal elf form.

Legendary Actions

Total 3 actions per turn. Not usable during phase 2.

Attack (Costs #1 Action). Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit with one of the two weapon, roll two times, one creature. Hit: Illidan Stormrage attacks the nearest target with both his warglaives dealing 20 (2d12+8) slashing damage with the first weapon, 16 (2d8+8) slashing damage with the second one .

Attack (Costs #1 Action). Only for Phase 4. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit with his claws, one creature. Hit: Illidan Stormrage attacks the nearest target with both his claws dealing 28 (4d10+8) slashing damage.

Description

Illidan Stormrage known as The Betrayer is the former ruler of the Black Temple. He was a (night) elf, the first demon hunter. During his life he turned into a demon consuming the fel energy of the Skull of Gul'Dan aquiring his powers to kill one archdemon. Is the ninth boss and last of the Black Temple. He is completely blind and blindfolded but with his fel power can see everything. Wears two Warglaive that count as magical weapons.The fight is divided into five phases, each one with different mechanics. When Akama and Maiev Shadowsong (both created as monster, link below) will join the battle will be another losing condition, if one or both of them gets killed the encounter is counted as failed.

Lair and Lair Actions

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Illidan Stormrage's Lair takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects:


 Phase 0,1, 3 and 5:

Draw Soul (Recharge 3-6). multiple creature, one target, 60ft cone area from Illidan. The Lair helps Illidan channelling the power of the Skull of Gul'Dan directs the soul of anyone in the area. All targets in the area must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw taking 15 (3d10) necrotic damage on a failed save, or evading the attack on a successful one. If the target is immune to necrotic damage, is an automatical success. Illidan heals himself of the same amount of damage done in this way.


 Phase 2

Dark Barrage. Spell attack: one creature, 240ft range, applies a debuff on a random target. The target must make a DC 24 Constitution saving throw taking 20 (4d10) necrotic damage at the beginning of target's turn for three turn on a failed save, or evading completely on a successful one.


 Phase 4

Shadow Demon (Recharge 5-6). A Shadow Demon spawn near Illidan Stormrage. It target a random creature that is against Illidan and that creature will be stunned. That creature remains stunned (cannot do action, bonus action , reactions or move, any concentration or active abilitiy will not be dropped) until the Shadow Demon or the creature are alive. Once that the Shadow Demon reaches the creature, it instantly fall unconscious (see monster creature sheet) If this happens, another creature will be targeted.

Regional Effects

The region containing a legendary Illidan Stormrage’s lair (Black Temple) is wicked by his evil power, which creates the following effects:

  • There is an everlasting night
  • Some violet thunder will be created out of nowhere hitting items for 4 (1d8) lightning damage. The items cannot be destroyed by the thunder. Can hit also creature that stands near or on top of the items, but not the various demons in the region. Only works outdoor.

If Illidan Stormrage dies, these effects fade over the course of 2 years.
