Zalkoré's Veil. Zalkoré only wishes to be seen by her beloved Thiru-Taya and wears a veil that entirely conceils her face. As long as she wears it, she cannot use her Petrifying Gaze.
Petrifying Gaze. When a creature that can see the medusa's eyes starts its turn within 30 feet of the medusa, the medusa can force it to make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw if the medusa isn't incapacitated and can see the creature. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the creature is instantly petrified. Otherwise, a creature that fails the save begins to turn to stone and is restrained. The restrained creature must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn, becoming petrified on a failure or ending the effect on a success. The petrification lasts until the creature is freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic.
Unless surprised, a creature can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If the creature does so, it can't see the medusa until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again. If the creature looks at the medusa in the meantime, it must immediately make the save.
If the medusa sees itself reflected on a polished surface within 30 feet of it and in an area of bright light, the medusa is, due to its curse, affected by its own gaze.
Wrath of the Last Queen of Omu (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). If Zalkoré is reduced to 0 hit points, her current hit points instead reset to 127, she lifts her veil (which enables her Petrifying Gaze trait) and regains 1 charge of Legendary Resistance. Additionally, Zalkoré can now use the options in the “Mythic Actions” section for 1 hour. Award a party an additional 2,300 XP (4,600 XP total) for defeating Zalkoré after this trait activates.
Legendary Resistance (1/Day). If Zalkoré fails a saving throw, she can choose to succeed instead.
Multiattack. Zalkoré makes either three melee attacks--one with its snake hair and two with Na'Ykwasul (her Yklwa +1).
Snake Hair. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) poison damage.
Na'Ykwasul (Yklwa ,+1). Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage.
Zalkoré can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Zalkoré regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Queen's Danse. The medusa curse has made Zalkoré unnaturally agile. Zalkoré can move up to her speed without provoking opportunity attacks. Additionally, at the cost of an extra legendary action, she can pick 1 creature she passed next to during her move, and make an attack with Na'Ykwasul. If the attack scores a hit, the target falls prone.
Poisoned Mind. Zalkoré's delusion flashes through the mind of a creature, showing them a glimps of the madness afflicting Zalkoré's psyche. Zalkoré casts Mind Sliver as part of this legendary action (save DC 14).
If Zalkoré's Wrath of the Last Queen of Omu trait has activated in the last hour, she can use the options below as legendary actions.
Summon Thiru-Taya. Zalkoré summons the spirit of Thiru-Taya to protect her. The next attack that hits Zalkoré deals half damage as Thiru-Taya blocks the attack. Additionally, Thiru-Taya retaliates against the attacker with his spear (throwing it if nescessary), dealing 15 (2d8+6) force damage. Zalkoré can and must immediatly use this mythic action after she uses her Wrath of the Last Queen of Omu mythic trait, regardless of how many legendary actions she has used this round.
Collective Hallucination (Costs 2 Actions). Zalkoré's delusion leaks through the ambient magic like a poisonous gas. Creatures who fall to the delusion see their surroundings shift to a beautiful throne room where Zalkoré is defending herself against treasonous guards, and begin to loose their senses. Zalkoré casts Tasha's Mind Whip at 4th level (save DC 14) as part of this mythic action, but can only target creatures within 30 feet of her instead of 90 feet.
Description
Zalkoré is the exiled queen of Omu and a medusa. Her character and delusions are detailed in Tomb of Annihilation. This statsblock aims to provide a more memorable fight, and provides a mythic trait should a party of strong adventurers decide to provoke Zalkoré's wrath.
Please note that despite the unchanged challenge rating, this version of Zalkoré is more powerful than the one in the book thanks to her mythic trait. This activable trait is optional, and doubles the XP gained as compensation.
