Traits

Amphibious. The zaccoum can breathe air and water.

Fruiting Tail. An adult zaccoum will typically have 1d8 fruits growing from its bush-like tail. A DC 10 Strength check is required to pick a fruit, and a DC 14 Sleight of Hand check is required to pick a fruit without the zaccoum noticing. Each berry restores 4 (1d8) hit points and provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day. If not canned, these fruits lose their potency within 10 days.

Jungle Camouflage. The zaccoum has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) saving throws to hide in jungle terrain.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage.

Tail Swipe. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d10 + 5) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Bonus Actions

Consume Fruit (must be taken before all other actions). The zaccoum picks and eats a fruit from its tail, providing it with a surge of energy. The zaccoum chooses one of the following effects to occur:

  • The zaccoum restores 4 (1d8) hit points.
  • The zaccoum may use three bite attacks this turn.
  • The zaccoum may take the Dodge action on its turn as a free action.

Description

Zaccoums are large reptiles that dwell in tropical rainforests. Zaccoums have emerald green scales that meander acorss shades of brown and gray as they run down the zaccoum's slender body, helps them to blend in with their surroundings. Zaccoums are unique in that they have a large bush for a tail that produces fruiting bodies. These fruits, colloquially known as sunfruits, resemble enormous, bright yellow strawberries and have a distinctly tangy flavor. Sunfruits are highly sought after due to their healing properties, but zaccoums will defend their fruits fiercely if agitated.

Monastic Inspiration. Whenever a zaccoum is irritated, it tends to scarf down one of its sunfruits, which apparently gives it a burst of energy that it uses to defend itself or slink away into the undergrowth. Some monastic traditions view zaccoums as the only non-sapient creatures that can tap into a primitive form of ki, and monks are encouraged to study zaccoums as a source of inspiration for their fighting styles.

Inferior Dragons. Zaccoums are very, very distant cousins to the dragons, but draconic blood still courses through their veins. Zaccoums frequently share habitats with green and black dragons that look upon the savage, wingless zaccoums with disdain.
