Description
Coral dragons are passionate and numerous, Being the most aquatic dragons there are and they are the sculptors of the ocean floor, making houses and moving many times, leaving behind coral reefs where-ever they have been. The bigger the reef, the bigger the dragon. They use the fertility of the land and their own bodily production to create monuments to themselves. But among all dragons they are the most tempting and creative.
A coral dragon is much more serpentine in bodily shape. It’s horns made of coral stocks that split into two. A red coral dragon is elegant and very beautiful to behold with strong legs that can slick back. The long tail and the frill going from the top of the head down to the base of the tail. Small whiskers just under its nose running to the back of its jaw.
Fertility. The coral dragon believes in life of the sea and is connected to it as it is the mother of life according to several legends. As such a coral dragon endorses the fertility of the sea and enjoys forming connections with people. They are the most openly friendly dragon and often travel alongside sailors, helping them get to where they need to in exchange for a gift to the sea. For this, sometimes sailors are sent back with a cluster of coral if they impress the dragon.
A coral dragon uses these gifts and adds them to its hoard. A hoard usually hidden inside its home reef. They seek out unique plants and druidic relics that help it maintain the sea floor. A druidic stave allowing for plant growth would be one of the most treasured prizes of a coral dragon.
Spiritual Awakening. A coral dragon is a sign of being on the correct spiritual path and to follow passions. Not only do they enjoy seeing monks and followers of faith, they are very curious about why other species find the need to believe in deities, which is kind of funny since they were created by a goddess themselves. As such, they actually do follow a religion and serve as a bastion, a protector of the nature goddess’ faith.
They look to other religions with curiosity and amusement. They, themselves serve as a sign from the earthen goddess of prosperity and family. If you see the dragon, it might be time to re-evaluate your spiritual path or look in on family.
Lair and Lair Actions
Lair Actions
On initiative 20 (losing on ties) the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; The dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row.
- Any area with coral from the dragon becomes very dense, any large or smaller creature adjacent to the coral must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or be Grappled by the growing coral.
- A whirlpool sucks medium and smaller size creatures in a 25ft sphere towards the center. Anyone in this area must make a DC 13 Strength check or be pulled 15ft towards the center.
Regional Effects
- Areas around a coral dragons lair grow massive clusters of coral that are often terraforming the surrounding area for 1 mile.
- Local wildlife often grows much quicker due to increased fertility rates, possibly doubling their normal production.
- Areas of water within 6 miles of the lair often have a deep red hue and upon entering them fill a person with creative ideas and rushing urges to do things with their hands, ways that they never thought of using things they knew or have seen.
If the dragon dies these effects slowly fade over 1d10 days.
