Consume Life. As a bonus action, the wyrmspecter can target one creature it can see within 5 feet of it that has 0 hit points and is still alive. The target must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw against this magic or die. If the target dies, the wyrmspecter regains 10 (3d6) hit points.
Ephemeral. The wyrmspecter can't wear or carry anything.
Incorporeal Movement. The wyrmspecter can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.
Variable Illumination. The wyrmspecter sheds bright light in a 5- to 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional number of feet equal to the chosen radius. The wyrmspecter can alter the radius as a bonus action.
Stellar Burst. Ranged Spell Attack: +6 to hit, range 120 feet, one target. Hit: 27 (5d10) force damage.
Squall of Stars (Recharge 5-6). The wyrmspecter exhales a cloud of shimmering starlight in a 20-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or make all attack rolls and saving throws with disadvantage. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. On a successful initial save, the creature takes 9 (2d8) psychic damage instead.
Invisibility. The wyrmspecter and its light magically become invisible until it attacks or uses its Consume Life, or until its concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell).
Description
Born from the residual matter that is left behind by cultic rituals and necromantic ceremonies, wyrmspecters prowl the lands surrounding abandoned temples, graveyards, and shrines. It is said that these ghostly creatures are animated by the long dead spirits of ancient dragons, their souls infused with lands that are powerfully magical. Attracting hopefuls and fanatics of all sorts, these dragon-tainted lands readily produce bizarre arcane effects, including the wisp-like entities known as wyrmspecters.
Wyrmspecters have few motivations. On occasion, a conjured wyrmspecter will attach itself to the mage or group that caused its coalescence, seemingly wishing to serve its creator. However, wyrmspecters are far more likely to wander the lands that spawned them, seeking out dwindling souls to consume. The presence of a wyrmspecter causes mere mortals to become confused, bewildered, lost, or hopeless. The powerful otherworldliness of these creatures causes reality to bend around them, turning the air to constellations. Such a sight is often the last thing that travelers and adventurers will marvel after encountering a wyrmspecter.
