Description

Strong willed and stubborn, steel dragons are determined, and stick to whatever view they choose first. While being masters of the forge and with a stomach to match. It is easy to get on the wrong side, or the positive side of a steel dragon.

Steel dragons are a unique metallic dragon, known for having glowing orange scales closer to the body, and the scales shifting to a shimmering grey akin to well done steel. The head resembling a flail with tree strikes of horn curling from the front of the face to the top of the head. A deep blue hue to their eyes and a more rounded, snake-like head shape. The tail having three elevated rows of steel plates. The underbelly a darkened steel from that area not being heated as much as the scales along it’s back.

Teachers of the Forge. They have taught humans and other species the ways of shaping metal and heating it. Whether they see a person as worthy of learning the art of forging from them is very picky though. They are picky and often seek a sort of compensation, such as a uniquely forged weapon, or an exotic tool design that it had not thought of to add to it’s collection. They hoard uniquely formed metal and those that take a high amount of skill to forge in the first place. One of the most precious things in a steel dragons hoard could be a golden dagger with three blades that twist to a point.

Stomach of Iron. They have a constant burning and melting metal in their stomach due to their diet. As such they tend to live underground, and make their lairs along veins of metal or areas with a harder rock. Often just keeping their hoard next to them as they sleep. They are often hungry and willing to take ore or jewels from others as presents to sate it’s stomach. Depending on what is added to their stomach they can give out different varieties of metals for different purposes.

Lair and Lair Actions

Lair Actions

On initiative 20 (losing on ties) the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; The dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row.

  • Cauldrons of molten metal bubbles up from the ground, Three 10ft squares within 120ft that the dragon can see become geysers. Anyone who enters or ends begins their turn in an are with them besides the dragon takes 3d6 Fire damage.
  • The area suddenly brightens, all the light reflecting off the metallic surfaces. All creatures besides the dragon that rely on sight must make a Constitution save DC12 of be blinded until the next lair action

Regional Effects

  • If anyone works on metal within 1 mile or meditates with a metallic weapon the dragon may choose to telepathically speak to the person for up to 60 minutes.
  • Physical sparks can be seen and heard by others, often leading those that the dragon may enjoy talking to within it’s lair. By no action of the dragon itself.
  • Given a day or longer to work a steel dragon can metal form steel and other metals to make decorations and whatever it wishes.

If the dragon dies these effects slowly fade over 1d10 days.
