Incorporeal Movement. Xi can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.

Ethereal Sight. Xi can see 60 feet into the Ethereal Plane when it is on the Material Plane, and vice versa.

Turn Immunity. Xi is immune to effects that turn undead.

Magic Resistance. Xi has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

 

Actions

Multiattack. Xi makes two Ethereal Claw attacks.

Ethereal Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 5) necrotic damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or its hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the necrotic damage taken. This reduction lasts until the creature finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.

Haunting Wail (Recharge 5-6). Xi emits a ghostly wail that can be heard up to 60 feet away. Each creature within 30 feet of Xi that can hear the wail must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 27 (5d10) psychic damage and is frightened for 1 minute. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't frightened. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Bonus Actions

Ethereal Step: Xi can step partially into the Ethereal Plane to become less tangible. Until the start of Xi's next turn, it has resistance to all damage except force damage, and it can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. If it ends its turn inside an object, it takes 5 (1d10) force damage.

Wisp of the Ethereal: Xi can create a small ethereal wisp that floats around it. The wisp sheds dim light in a 10-foot radius. Xi can have up to three wisps active at one time. As a bonus action on subsequent turns, Xi can move the wisp up to 30 feet to a point it can see. The wisp lasts for 1 hour or until dismissed by Xi.

Spectral Visage (Recharge 5-6): Xi can use its bonus action to create a ghostly, intimidating visage. Each creature of Xi's choice within 30 feet that can see Xi must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the end of Xi's next turn. While frightened in this way, a creature is paralyzed.

These bonus actions add versatility to Xi, making it a more dynamic and interesting entity in encounters. The Ethereal Step gives it defensive capabilities, the Wisp of the Ethereal adds utility, and the Spectral Visage provides a powerful crowd control option.

Reactions

Phantasmal Retreat. When a creature ends its turn within 5 feet of Xi, Xi can use its reaction to move up to half its flying speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
