Shapechanger. Zhao can use her action to polymorph into a wolf-humanoid hybrid or into a wolf, or back into her true form, which is humanoid. Zhao's statistics, other than her AC, are the same in each form. Any equipment she is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. Zhao reverts to her true form if she dies.
Keen Hearing and Smell. Zhao has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Fleet of Foot. Zhao can take the Dash action and the Hide action as a Bonus action.
Cursed Regeneration. Every round, Zhao regenerates 20 HP at the start of her turn unless she has been damaged by a silver weapon within the last round.
Savage Frenzy. While Zhao's HP is below half of her starting HP, she can make two additional claw attacks when using the Multiattack action for the rest of the encounter.
Multiattack. Zhao uses her Frightful Presence, and then makes one pounce attack and one claw attacks or two claw attacks. Her bite attack can replace any attack.
Pounce. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit 11 (2d6 + 5) bludgeoning damage and the target must make a DC 14 STR saving throw or be knocked Prone and Restrained. A save can be made at the end of the character's turn, as well as each time the Alpha Werewolf takes more than 20 damage in a single attack. Before making this attack, the Alpha Werewolf must move at least 15 ft. in a straight line towards the target.
Frightful Presence. Each creature that is within 60 feet and is aware of the Alpha Werewolf must succeed a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or take 2d6 psychic damage and be frightened for one minute. A creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success, but taking 8 psychic damage on a failure. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Alpha Werewolf's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit 14 (2d8 + 8) slashing damage and the target must make a DC 15 CON saving throw, taking 14 (4d6) necrotic damage and becoming grappled for one round on a failed save, or half damage and becoming staggered on a successful save. When staggered, a character has disadvantage on attack rolls and spells have a 25% chance to fail.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one grappled target. Hit 16 (2d10+10) piercing damage and the target must make a DC 18 CON saving throw, taking 15 (5d6) necrotic damage and becoming cursed with Lycanthropy on a failed save, or half damage and resisting the curse on a successful save.
Savage Instincts. Zhao can make one additional attack of opportunity per persons' turn.
Howl of the Night Pack (1/Long Rest). Once per long rest, Zhao can Howl into the night, summoning aid from the Were in the village over which she presides. Roll a d6 to determine how many come to her call, then roll a d8 for each one to determine if they are a werebear(1), wereboar(2), wererat(3), weretiger(4), werewolf(5), werefox(6), were-vulture(7), or a goliath werebear(8). The Pack is summoned at the beginning of Zhao's following turn, each one appearing within an unoccupied space within 15 feet of Zhao. The Pack takes its turn with Zhao.
Description
Zhao (Claw), once the wife of Yao (Bite), is the leader of North Grove, a haven village for were-beasts, open to any looking for safety amidst their own kind. Like much of the Sovereignt Autonomus, there are not many laws in the village, provided that a visitor or resident is a practitioner of common decency.
Zhao and Yao were once married, millennia ago, and lead a happy life together. This life was ruined for them forever when their newborn was slain by savage barbarians in an attack during an outing as a family. Zhao and Yao ravaged the barbarians afterwards, and lead an assault on their base to eradicate them for such a crime against them. In doing so however, they discovered that the one who ordered the barbarians to attack them was a pair of elders, one each from Zhao and Yao's clans, who were both upset at seeing their families bloodlines "dirtied" with such bestial blood in Zhao and Yao's Daughter. Upon discovering this, Zhao left Yao, vowing to never give birth again after losing her first child. Yao hunted down and killed his clan member responsible for the attack, after which he sealed himself in the hopes of perishing to the withering of time, that he may find his daughter in death after losing also the love of his life.
