Traits

Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the undead storm giant to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the undead storm giant drops to 1 hit point instead.

Innate Spellcasting. The undead storm giant’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 18). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

  • At will: Detect Magic, Thunderwave
  • 3/day each: Call Lightning, Lightning Bolt, Wall of Force
  • 1/day each: Chain Lightning, Control Weather

Aura of Despair. Any creature within 10 feet of the undead storm giant has disadvantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.

Lightning Absorption. Whenever the undead storm giant is subjected to lightning damage, it takes no damage and instead regains a number of hit points equal to the lightning damage dealt.

Actions

Multiattack. The undead storm giant makes two attacks with its lightning greatsword.

Lightning Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +15 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 32 (6d6 + 9) slashing damage plus 18 (4d8) lightning damage.

Thunderclap (Recharge 5–6). The undead storm giant releases a deafening thunderclap in a 60-foot radius. Each creature in that area must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 36 (8d8) thunder damage and is stunned until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn’t stunned.

Call Lightning Storm (1/Day). The undead storm giant magically creates a storm centered on itself, spreading out in a 120-foot radius. The storm lasts for 1 minute. Each creature of the undead storm giant’s choice that starts its turn in the storm or enters it for the first time must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Legendary Actions

The undead storm giant can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn.

Detect. The undead storm giant makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Lightning Strike (Costs 2 Actions). The undead storm giant targets one creature it can see within 120 feet of it. The target must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.

Move. The undead storm giant moves up to half its speed.

Description

Once a noble and awe-inspiring figure of the storm giants, this massive undead abomination now looms as a terrifying shadow of its former glory. Standing over 25 feet tall, its decayed form is wreathed in an unnatural aura of despair, causing the very air around it to grow heavy with malice. The giant's once-pristine blue-gray skin is now pallid and cracked, revealing patches of bone and sinew where the flesh has rotted away. Faint arcs of blue lightning occasionally dance across its body, illuminating hollow, lifeless eyes that glow with an eerie pale light.

The giant’s once-mighty greatsword has transformed into a wicked blade of rusted steel and crackling energy, charged with the remnants of the storms it once commanded. Its voice, when it speaks, is like rolling thunder, and its every step seems to reverberate through the ground like distant thunderclaps.

This undead behemoth radiates an aura of despair, sapping the will of those who stand too close, while its mastery of storm magic remains as deadly as ever. Though its mind has been warped by undeath, remnants of its storm-wielding heritage linger, allowing it to summon devastating bolts of lightning and unleash deafening thunderclaps with ease.

Legends speak of these monstrous giants being created by powerful necromancers or cursed by the gods themselves, punished for great hubris or unspeakable sins. Whether raised as a tool of war or left to wander in eternal torment, an undead storm giant is a force of nature warped into a force of destruction. Few who encounter it live to tell the tale, and fewer still can resist the unrelenting storm that follows in its wake.
