Rampage. When the Wild Mange reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack on its turn, the Wild Mange can take a bonus action to move up to half its speed and make a bite attack.
Shapechanger. The Wild Mange can use its action to polymorph into a creature-humanoid hybrid or back into its true form, which is humanoid. Its statistics, other than its AC, are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Curse of the Wild Mange. When a spellcaster is under the effects of Wild Mange lycanthropy, each spell they cast while cursed triggers a Wild Magic Surge. See the Sorcerer's Wild Magic table in the PHB.
Mad Multiattack. Roll 1d4 at the beginning of each of the Wild Mange's turns to determine how many attacks it can make each round. Using this pool of actions the Wild Mange can attack in the following ways:
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (2d4 + 2) piercing damage. If the target is a humanoid, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with Wild Mange lycanthropy.
Spell-Scythe. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d6 + 2) slashing damage. On a hit, the Wild Mange drains one spell slot of the targets lowest level available and regains 8 (2d4+4) hit points.
Scintillating Strobe. The Wild Mange emits a blinding array of colors. Any creature within 5 ft of the creature must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or become stunned until the end of the victim's next turn.
Shock Step. The Wild Mange teleports up to 60 feet. Immediately after it disappears, the tear in reality bursts, and each creature within 10 feet of the space the Wild Mange formerly occupied must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw, taking 2d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Chaotic Crescendo. When the Wild Mange is reduced to 0 hit points, it explodes. Each creature within 15 feet of the Wild Mange must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 10 (2d10) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. When the Wild Mange is reduced to 0 hit points roll once on the Sorcerer's Wild Magic table and proceed with the following effect.
(Optional Variant: When the Wild Mange is reduced to 0 hit points, roll once on the Sorcerer's Wild Magic table and proceed with the following effect. )
Description
In the wake of the Spellplague where the weave of magic was all but snuffed out, there lingered pockets of destructive wild magic that tainted the land and creatures like a radioactive poison. Born from this toxic and twisted magic, the Wild Mange is a creature torn between planes clawing its way through the realms through aberrant bursts of teleportation. It thirsts for stable magic to tether it to the material plane, and will feed on the spell slots of its victims.
Symptoms of a Wild Mange incursion include wayward objects glitching into walls as well as nearby creatures appearing to lag or repeat actions in real time. Spellcasters that manage to escape the jaws of a hungry Wild Mange may find their spells tainted by wild magic. If your faithful wizard received multiple lacerations from this glitched fiend, they might experience subtle cravings for magics that progress into fits of madness and finally full metamorphosis.
The curse of the Wild Mange is one of the most dangerous forms of lycanthropy, which can best be surmised as teleporting glitch-wolves that explode with deadly strobing light. Best of luck, adventurers, come your next long rest.

Posted Oct 23, 2019I'm not well versed in Monster Making but wouldn't the CR be a few levels higher seeing as the Mange has Immunity to all forms of weapon damage that isn't both Magic and Silvered?
If anything having a weapon with at least one of those traits should deal Resistance Damage if I may be so bold as to offer input.

Posted Oct 23, 2019All lycans have this ability. Its CR and attacks are very close to a Werewolf with a few upgrades. :)

Posted Oct 24, 2019Very very cool creature. I wish its shape-changer forms had some other options but I admire it nonetheless. Love your channel :D

Posted Dec 2, 2019I recently used this in my home campaign and did a little tweak for a pseudo-boss. I called it the Greater Wild Mange. AC-18 as the crystalline carapace gets harder and thicker the longer they remain alive. The HP I had to play by ear so I dont have an exact number. Size moves to large. Instead of the d4 for number of attacks they have a d6. But after the greater wild mange is reduced to 0 hit points, the carapace breaks along with the wild magic burst and it transforms into the Rabid Mange. The burst has a dex save 13 for 3d6 piercing damage for shrapnel. It regains 150 hit points and gets to roll a d12 for number of attacks in this form. At each interval of 25 hp taken from it, another burst of wild magic happens. Once the rabid mange is reduced to 0 hp all people in the radius of the wild magic burst make a wisdom save 16. If they fail, all their remaining spell slots of 5th level and lower are drained. It will regain hp equal to half of the effect of spell scythe this way.
It was almost tpk territory. I think the most health any of the pcs had was 16 at the end.

Posted Dec 6, 2019I personally love the whole idea and the background for the monster but I’m not sure about all the weapon resistances. But maybe it’s just me

I'm gonna guess that the Rabid Mange has thunder clouds around his mouth like a creature that has rabies.

Posted Jul 20, 2020Just used this creature in a "Boss" Encounter. Ive never seen my players get more terrified when they realized "Oh Shit, We can't hit this thing!", They fought tooth and nail and eventually brought down the 4 total I gave them. Best Encounter ive ever run! Love your work.
