Description

Wreath Demon
Camouflaged Harbinger of Stolen Knowledge

The Wreath Demon resembles the twisted, lifeless remains of a dark-barked tree, its wood almost pitch black. This appearance allows it to blend seamlessly into the shadowed depths of forests—an invaluable advantage for those that have slipped free of the Abyssal Plane into the Material world. It moves with unsettling ease on gnarled, rootlike legs, and hunts with elongated, razor-sharp claws capable of beheading its prey before they can react.

The creature bears no eyes, mouth, or head. It has no need for food, water, or air. Instead, from its shoulders sprout two thick, branch-like extensions—grim perches upon which it hangs the severed heads of its victims. These branches burrow into the base of each skull, threading into the brainstem. This parasitic connection allows the Wreath Demon to speak every language the victim knew and wield every spell they had mastered—up to 6th level.

A Wreath Demon can host two heads at a time. If those heads belonged to spellcasters of differing traditions—arcane, divine, or primal—the demon can wield them simultaneously. Though it cannot replicate unique class features (such as Wild Shape, Sorcery Points or Channel Divinity) or racial traits, it can maintain concentration on two separate spells at once, one from each head.

This versatility makes every encounter with a Wreath Demon unpredictable; its power depends entirely on the heads it carries. A Wreath Demon with the skull of a high priest and an archmage is an apocalyptic threat.

Spellcasting Capacity (per head):

  • Cantrips: unlimited

  • 1st Level: 4 slots

  • 2nd Level: 3 slots

  • 3rd Level: 3 slots

  • 4th Level: 3 slots

  • 5th Level: 2 slots

  • 6th Level: 1 slot

Each head’s spell slots replenish only under the same conditions they would for their original owner—typically after a long rest—forcing the demon to continue hunting fresh prey to replenish or replace its arsenal.

Inspiration for this monster was taken from the Overlord Movie: Sacred Kingdom. The inspiration was the Circlet Demon. With almost no in-depth information on the creature a lot had to be homebrewed.
