Irresistible Charm. A Synapsid’s charm effects bypass immunity. Creatures normally immune to being charmed (such as elves, fey, or celestials) instead make saving throws against these effects with advantage.
-
Feytouched Mind. The Synapsid cannot be controlled by an Elder Brain or forced into a hive mind.
-
Psionic Elegance. The Synapsid adds its Charisma modifier to its AC while unarmored.
-
Spellcasting. The Synapsid is a 7th-level spellcaster. Its spellcasting ability is Charisma . It knows the following spells:
-
Cantrips (at will): friends, vicious mockery, dancing lights
1st level (4 slots): charm person, dissonant whispers, sleep
2nd level (3 slots): calm emotions, enthrall, suggestion
3rd level (3 slots): hypnotic pattern, major image
4th level (1 slot): compulsion, greater invisibility
Multiattack. The Synapsid makes two tentacle attacks or casts one spell and makes one tentacle attack.
Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 13 (2d8+4) psychic damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 16 Charisma saving throw or be charmed for 1 minute. While charmed, the creature regards the Synapsid as a trusted ally. The save repeats at the end of each of its turns.
Spellcasting. The Synapsid casts a spell (see spell list).
Psionic Allure (Recharge 5–6). The Synapsid radiates alien beauty. Each creature of its choice within 30 ft. must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed for 1 minute. This effect bypasses charm immunity (though immune creatures roll with advantage). Charmed creatures retain identity but fight on the Synapsid’s behalf.
Description
A Synapsid is the “perfected” result of ceremorphosis upon an elf. Unlike ordinary illithids, they do not dominate by force of will but enthrall with psionic allure. Their thralls remain fully themselves — laughing, singing, and fighting of their own volition — but twisted into loyal devotion. Synapsids embody alien charisma, enchanting even elves and fey who would normally shrug off charm. Elder Brains revile them as heretical anomalies; mortals revere them as muses, tyrants, or alien queens.
Unlike their Illithid cousins, Synapsids seem downright reasonable. They can be reasoned with, even persuaded. But don't be fooled, there's a cold alien logic at play under that innate desire to charm. After all, they still need brains to live.
