Description

Habitat & Society

Ashfang drakes are most often found near volcanic isles, scorched cliffs, and burned-out forests. They thrive in places touched by fire and ash, nesting in the blackened remains of past blazes. Raiders and bandit clans prize them for their intimidation and raw destructive power, raising them from hatchlings with scorched meats and ritual fire-dances.

Behavior & Ecology

Young Ashfangs are reckless and aggressive, diving headlong into fights with little concern for defense. They enjoy intimidating prey, igniting themselves to appear larger and more terrifying.

  • They breathe fire rarely, saving it for groups of prey or when threatened.
  • When cornered, their scales flare with embers, burning anything that touches them.
  • Older Ashfangs grow more disciplined, capable of controlling their flames in terrifying displays that can incinerate ships whole.

Ashfang drakes are omnivores but prefer charred prey, often roasting their kills before eating.

Legends & Lore

Among sailors, Ashfangs are considered omens of disaster. “To see a fire in the clouds is to see your end,” goes an old saying. Raiders believe riding one marks them as chosen of flame, warriors who cannot be extinguished until their deaths. Some whisper that when an Ashfang dies, its body burns itself to ash, leaving nothing but a smoking crater where it fell.
