Barbed Body: A creature that touches the zhugaryth or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 9 (2d8) piercing damage.
Fire Frenzy: If the zuhgaryth takes at least a single point of fire damage from any source its attacks get more reckless and frenzied in an attempt to protect its microzhu and macrozhu children.
Until the end of its next turn, the zhugaryth deals an extra 11 (2d10) acid damage when it attacks a target with its Barbed Tentacle attack
Multiattack: The zhugaryth makes two attacks with its barbed tentacles.
Barbed Tentacle Melee Weapon Attack: + 10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 19 (3d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage and 11 (2d10) acid damage
Canker (Recharge 6): The zhugaryth fires violet barbs from its tentacles that strike a target that it can see within 60 feet. The target begins to violently erupt blood from its pores, nose, mouth, and eyes as the needles embed themselves all over the target's body. The creature must make a DC 15 Constitution save. If they fail, their hit points are reduced to half their current total and they are blinded until the end of its next turn. This ability has no effect on undead and constructs.
Barbed Bunker (3/day): When a creature the zhugaryth can see targets the zhugaryth with an attack or forces the zhugaryth to make a Strength or Dexterity saving throw, the zhugaryth can use its reaction to instantly animate barbed vines from the ground to rise and form a temporary protective shell between it and the attacker, adding 5 to its AC and strength and Dexterity saving throws. To do so, the zhugaryth must see the attacker. The shell disappears immediately after the attack.
The zhugaryth can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The zhugaryth regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Apex Command: The zhugaryth screeches a command at one microzhu or macrozhu within 30 feet of it. It can move up to half its speed and make one attack as a reaction. The creature doesn’t provoke an opportunity attack from this movement.
Barbed Tentacle (Costs 2 Actions): The zhugaryth makes one barbed tentacle attack
Description
The zhugaryth is often confused as a part of the natural fauna in many densely forested areas in regions away from the hussle and bussle of major civilisation. However, this choice for staying away from the majority of humanoids does not take away from the fact these creatures are ruthless killers that will stop at nothing to bludgeon whatever comes in their way to provide excess of meat for all the microzhu and macrozhu which it has the responsibility to care for. If an adventurer comes into an area where the zhugaryth and its children are living then expect no mercy.
Barbed Marauder:
The zhugaryth appears as a writing mass of dark green vines which swirl in a large spherical shape, each of the vines are coated in sharp barbs like appendages along with a coating of a viscous acidic sap which it uses to help burn away any fur or thick fat on any meals that it has caught for its children. In actuality, the zhugaryth's body is slightly smaller than the writing mass presents itself to be, underneath the tumultuous amount of deadly vines there is a thick leathery onion-shaped body similar to what it was like as a macrozhu. It has beady yellow eyes which slowly softly during the night along with a small mouth filled with sharp teeth that it uses to consume its meal. Over time, due to the extent of how many enormous vines have grown all over its body, it has adapted to not using its feet for movement, having turned to small spiked stumps now. Instead, it writhes along with the use of the barbed vine tentacles to push itself along the forest floor.
Parental Fauna:
Once a zhugaryth reaches maturity, it will pollinate and give birth to a large quantity of microzhu children, this process occurs through planting specific darker green spines that they grow at the end of every solstice or equinox. When they plant these spines into the ground, they germinate over the period of a month until eventually the bulb-like shape in the group shakes and pops out of the ground as a microzhu. A zhugaryth could have anywhere between five to fifty children at one go depending on how fertile it is during its pollination period. Throughout the lifespan of its children as both a microzhu and macrozhu it provides all the food that these carnivorous species need through its own method of trap like hunting - they will often wait for a humanoid or more commonly another large creature to approach or walk by them before ambushing them with an onslaught of acidic tentacles. A zhugaryth will often repeat this a few times in the day to provide a large amount of meat for its children to consume.
