A thin green ray springs from your pointing finger to a target that you can see within range. The target can be a creature, an object, or a creation of magical force, such as the wall created by wall of force.
A creature targeted by this spell must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 10d6 + 40 force damage. The target is disintegrated if this damage leaves it with 0 hit points.
A disintegrated creature and everything it is wearing and carrying, except magic items, are reduced to a pile of fine gray dust. The creature can be restored to life only by means of a true resurrection or a wish spell.
This spell automatically disintegrates a Large or smaller nonmagical object or a creation of magical force. If the target is a Huge or larger object or creation of force, this spell disintegrates a 10-foot- cube portion of it. A magic item is unaffected by this spell.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the damage increases by 3d6 for each slot level above 6th.
* - (a lodestone and a pinch of dust)
No resurrections this time…
You could resolve it by saying the target is one tough cookie. The disintegration beam successfully hit the target, but his internal constitution and fortitude allowed his body to survive the attack and maintain function. Think like when Star-Lord hits Ronan the Accuser with the Hadron Enforcer in GOTG1. Direct hit, Ronan just no-sold it.
This spell has no restriction against objects that are being word or carried? Does this mean that the spell does, in fact, work infallibly against weapons and armor that are being worn/carried? And if so, will it work on the weapons used by a creature with the trait Magic Weapons since that trait only renders the attacks magical?
A fun house rule I've made is on a successful save, the spell continues in a straight line, and any creature behind the target also have to make the save, and if they succeed the beam continues, and so on. It makes the spell more dangerous, which I think makes sense in term of how deadly it can be. Plus imagine shooting it into space and thousands of years in the future the beam hots a creature on another planet lightyears away
nothing. its a high risk high reward spell
This is what avada kedavra is right?
except other features that utterly destroy the body/soul, like everything a nightwalker does, are constitution saves
Best spell ever I beat Vecna only with this spell
Super late reply to this, apologies, but previous editions, there was a 'to hit' component with this spell, prior to the save. In 5e, instead of stacking a to hit, and then a save, they just simplified it into a save. It's been a "dodging" spell for at least 20 years.
So this spell has a substitution effect on reaching 0hp. This ignores most rules that work with death saves. Kinda like getting dropped by certain types of undead.
I love this spell. Dodge or die. Easy to reflavor in to an anime attack. Useful for hunting dragons.
I know it is not a death effect, but 10d6+40 is close enough.
Na, avada kedavra is Power word kill, this spell is "Enemy-b-gone"
Ok, so heres the thing. A nice high level spellcaster: Power word stun for autostun as long as enemy isnt to tanky and then disintegrate. Stunned creatures autofail dex saves, and you can upcast disintegrate to deal stupid amounts of damage. Just food for thought.
No I think they would just miss
Nothing. The damage is avoided, which is why this spell is best paired with Hold Person if you use it against enemies, or as a utility spell for destroying part of a deadly trap, a large contraption, or blasting your way through a dungeon wall.
So let's say a half-orc got hit with this and had less than 10d6+40 HP. Which effect happens first, the half-orc turning into a pile of ash or the half-orc's relentless endurance? In other words, does disintegrate count as killing the character outright?
I ask because this almost happened to my half-orc paladin last session. Fortunately, my character decided to heal rather than attack in his turn right before this happened so he had enough HP to tank it.
Why is this spell not available as a magical secret?
I would say a zealot barbarian just barely manages to hold themselves together until they run out of death saves or their rage ends.
super rizful
i love using this with Heightened Spell.
