Until the spell ends, one willing creature you touch is protected against certain types of creatures: aberrations, celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead.
The protection grants several benefits. Creatures of those types have disadvantage on attack rolls against the target. The target also can't be charmed, frightened, or possessed by them. If the target is already charmed, frightened, or possessed by such a creature, the target has advantage on any new saving throw against the relevant effect.
* - (holy water or powdered silver and iron, which the spell consumes)

Posted Mar 18, 2021It says Devotion Paladins at level 15 are always under the effects of this spell. Does that mean they have to choose a creature to be resistant to every 10 minutes or be protected against them all?

Posted Apr 19, 2021I might be late on answering this for you, but the Devotion Paladin would be protected against all types mentioned in the spell constantly when hitting level 15.
The wording of the spell says "you touch a willing creature" who would be protected against all those types.
The Oath of Devotion feature just skips over picking who benefits from the spell. Otherwise, the rest of the spell is the same. No need to specify what creature type to begin with. Hope this helps!

Posted May 3, 2021Would this work on the bodies of people affected by Magic Jar? It would seem that the target being referenced to in the text is, in most cases of possession, still there but shunted off to the side. In Magic Jar, however, there is nobody left in the body with volition but the possessor - so it would seem that this wouldn't allow the "target's" soul to get another save since the target soul could possibly even be on another plane, yes?

Posted Jun 24, 2021The Magic Jar spell already stated where Protection from Evil and Good can protect someone against being possessed. Once a target is possessed, their soul is now in the Jar, and there are no future saves, so Protection cast afterwards would have no affect.

Posted Nov 23, 2021In the Character Builder for your druid, go to "2. Class". Between "Class Features" and "Spells", you should now see an "Optional Feature Manager", and you can check off Additional Spells, as well as Wild Companion and Cantrip Versatility. Additional Spells will get you this spell and the others.

Posted Dec 1, 2021Darn it! This and magic circle have no effect against saving throws. Then again, magic circle requires no concentration, so you can combine with circle of power at higher levels.

Posted Feb 3, 2022Our game is currently interpreting this spell in relation to a sentient magic item.
item is not a creature, nor necessarily of those types, so can it still possess.
no verdict yet, but feels like a RAW vs RAI scenario.

Posted Feb 14, 2022As far as I know, magic items aren't made sentient solely by the will of the crafter. There is a being in the item. If that being is a aberration, celestial, elemental, fey, fiend, or undead, then this spell should work. If not, then the spell has no effect. Which doesn't really solve the problem, but should at least narrow down the search for a answer.

Posted Jun 22, 2022Mostly because many encounters consist entirely of creatures that this stat guards against and turning off fear, charm and giving disadvantage on all attacks against the party with a single spell is super busted. As is it’s a great option but you have to think carefully who is most in need of the protection.

Posted Aug 23, 2022Just call it 'protection from extraplanar beings'. Yeah, some undead aren't exactly otherwordly, but there's an extraplanar force animating them.

Posted Sep 13, 2022Disagree. If there is no cost the materials aren’t needed.
“A spellcaster must have a hand free to access a spell's material components -- or to hold a spellcasting focus…”
