The wood of a club or quarterstaff you are holding is imbued with nature's power. For the duration, you can use your spellcasting ability instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using that weapon, and the weapon's damage die becomes a d8. The weapon also becomes magical, if it isn't already. The spell ends if you cast it again or if you let go of the weapon.
* - (mistletoe, a shamrock leaf, and a club or quarterstaff)

Posted May 5, 2020I would say that it would be a +11 and 1d8+7 if the quarterstaff is magical. Also for the Nature Domain you would get to add 1d8 to the damage roll because of Divine Strike.

Posted May 6, 2020So the spell description says you CAN use your spellcasting ability for attack and damage rolls... Could you choose to still use your Strength instead? I want you all to imagine a fighter with the magic initiate feat (character is also a chef) using a big wooden spoon as an improvised club when answering this question.

Posted May 9, 2020It says "can", not "must", so yes, you can still use your Strength.
Fun fact: a monk/druid/hexblade/battle smith can choose between Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma when attacking with a shillelagh:

Posted Sep 25, 2020the spell is bad. i have it buffed to be able to use any weapon and it scales since druids don't get multi-attack.
this alongside circle of spores makes druids decent frontlines with melee damage, while still being able to cast spells.

Posted Sep 25, 2020yes. you should just go ahead and tpk and start a different campaign, and then never ever ever buff a useless spell in the game ever again.

Posted Oct 28, 2020This cantrip needs spell scale leveling, no if's, and's, or buts. Even a simple additional +1 at certain levels would make this more viable for play, otherwise you need to either take magic initiate with a melee class or multiclass out of druid. It seems like an oversight that a damage cantrip doesn't scale with levels and having to homebrew it out of impotence is just lazy on the writers part.
