You briefly stop the flow of time for everyone but yourself. No time passes for other creatures, while you take 1d4 + 1 turns in a row, during which you can use actions and move as normal.
This spell ends if one of the actions you use during this period, or any effects that you create during this period, affects a creature other than you or an object being worn or carried by someone other than you. In addition, the spell ends if you move to a place more than 1,000 feet from the location where you cast it.
could you technically cast time stop then put something over someones head and cast catapult over and over adding 90ft per second each time you cast the spell, i was just wondering for non-nefarious reasons
This spell is very… underwhelming. It’s also kinda useless. There are so many possibilities to improve this spell:
1. Casting time is changed to a reaction, for badass time freezes
2. Projectiles should be halted upon the casting or the spell, and instead hit their target once the spell ends, unless somehow stopped (time freeze + arrow catch ???)
3. Increase jump distance and mitigate falling damage in a way akin to feather fall
4. The caster should still be able to interact with other creatures - however, all effects and rolls happen simultaneously immediately after the spell ends. This means you could, for example, throw a bunch of knives. All these knives would be suspended midair until time stop ends, and then you would roll to hit and roll all the damage dice and stuff. The spell should also allow you to mess with objects being worn or carried.
5. RAW, this spell doesn’t effect objects. Using time stop to try and diffuse a bomb that’s about to hollow up? Whoops, sorry, the fuse is still burning down and the bomb blows up. Need to catch the McGuffin that’s about to smash on the floor? Nope, it still falls and shatters.
Anyway, this should be changed.
6. Moving through frozen time probably messes with your momentum a bit. Adding some extra damage and a bit of knockback to unarmed strikes could be cool.
7. Perhaps, and I’m just spitballing here, you could disallow spellcasting while time stop is active but allow players to interact with creatures and held/worn objects otherwise. I haven’t really thought about this one much, just an idea.
Forcecage only blocks spell effects if you do the 10ft cube box and not the 20ft cube cage.
I am somewhat surprised no one mentioned Sakuya here yet

ZA WARUDO!!
Easy Death Combo depending on your number rolled:
Delayed Blast Fireball + Otilukes + Disintegrate
2 Rounds:
13d6+10d6+40
3 Rounds
14d6+20d6+40
4 Rounds
15d6+30d6+40
and If your really lucky and hit the jackpot 5 rounds:
16d6+40d6+40
Not so bad now, is it?
no, not really. Since Delayed Fireball requires concentration, you can't instanuke an area. However, you can do what I did and allow you to cast spells through a successful concentration(constitution) check. Hope I helped!
ZA WARUDO
I guess it could be great for setting up each of your teammates for each of their next turns. Maybe for helping everyone escape a situation.
u could cast this then shoot the BBEG a lot and profit.
This spell was famously countered by the great Sorcerer Simon Aumar in the Battle of Neverwinter (late 1490s DR).
has nobody in these comments thought about the fact that at level 17, the earliest you might use this spell, you probably have a ton of potions and magic items that might be really helpful, but require an action to set up?
such as
Cloudkill does not deal damage until the enemy starts its turn in the cloud, so it would not end timestop until it deals damage. So one way to make this combo work is use one turn to cloudkill, and then cast forcecage- which Does end the spell because creatures within it are immediately trapped.
It bothers me, that this does not explicitly prevent other creatures from taking reactions while time is frozen for them.
Who came here after watching the DnD movie? 🍿
i came here for za warudo
and yes i did watch the movie.
Is it scary that Amethyst Greatwyrms have two of those?
If you cast a spell. Would be a shame if you set up a summon spell and demiplane full of symbols to trigger
Perfect for a solo escape!
