Monk
Base Class: Monk

Those who pursue the Black Bead believe in two tenants. One, sight is a hindrance and a distraction, and will block your path to enlightenment. Two, being able to disrupt opponent's attacks and spell casts is an extremely valuable skill set. Typically, monks of the Black Bead will focus on disrupting either physical attacks or magical spells, and specialize on knowing how to disrupt that type to the fullest. Entire monasteries are devoted to teaching their students how to properly disrupt magic users or martial fighters. Monks of the Black Bead are typically sent in to de-escalate tense situations.

Disruptor

One of the tenants of the Black Bead monks puts immense value on disrupting opponents in a fight. When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you must also choose to go down a path of learning Martial Disruption or Magical Disruption.

Magical Disruption

You focus heavily on learning to disrupt magical combatants. Doing so will have you learn how spell casting works, what movements spell casters need to take, and the ways to help shut down their magics. When you select Magical Disruption, you gain the Mage Slayer feat.

Mage Slayer

You have practiced techniques useful in melee combat against spellcasters, gaining the following benefits:

  • When a creature within 5 feet of you casts a spell, you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature.
  • When you damage a creature that is concentrating on a spell, that creature has disadvantage on the saving throw it makes to maintain its concentration.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against spells cast by creatures within 5 feet of you.

Martial Disruption

You focus heavily on learning to disrupt martial combatants. Doing so will have you learn how martial combatants fight, how they move, and how to properly use this to your advantage. When you select Martial Disruption, you gain the Sentinel feat.

Sentinel

You have mastered techniques to take advantage of every drop in any enemy's guard, gaining the following benefits:

  • When you hit a creature with an opportunity attack, the creature's speed becomes 0 for the rest of the turn.
  • Creatures provoke opportunity attacks from you even if they take the Disengage action before leaving your reach.
  • When a creature within 5 feet of you makes an attack against a target other than you (and that target doesn't have this feat), you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against the attacking creature.

Beads of Black

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you lose your sight. In exchange, your four remaining senses are heightened. You gain Blindsense up to 60 feet away. Your eyes turn a deep black, and almost look as though they have been replaced with a glass bead.

Reactive Fighting

Starting at 6th level, you have honed your senses to the degree that you react faster than most fighters, and have learned to tap into your own reserves to briefly increase your reactionary timing. You gain the ability to expend 1 Ki point to grant yourself 1 additional reaction.

Momentum Manipulation

Starting at 11th level, you gain the ability to further use your opponents movement against them. If you have gone down the path of Martial Disruption, you gain the ability Betraying Strike. If you've instead gone down the path of Magical Disruption, you gain the ability Pressure Points.

Betraying Strike

You have studied the ways of martial fighting, and have become adept at using the enemy's movements against them. If an opponent strikes at you with a melee attack and misses, you can use your reaction to redirect the attack at a target of your choosing that you can see within 5 feet of you.

Pressure Points

Alternatively, if you have been studying the arcane, you have learned of certain pressure points on the body that diminish their spell casting abilities. If a creature is casting a spell within 5 feet of you, you can expend your reaction to lower the attack roll by 2, or the spell's save DC by 2.

Enlightened Distruption

At 17th level, you have mastered the ways of putting an opponent on their back foot. If you've learned the ways of Martial Disruption, you gain the ability of Armor Antagonist. If you've gone down the path of Magical Disruption, you gain the Concentration Controller ability.

Armor Antagonist

If you've studied martial fighting, you gain the ability to swiftly remove portions of armor, opening the opponent up to attacks. If an opponent is wearing Medium or Heavy Armor, you can use your bonus action to attempt to do so. Make an attack roll using your Unarmed Strike. if you hit, you deal no damage, but the target's AC is lowered by 5 until the end of their next turn.

Concentration Controller

If you've studied the arcane arts, you've learned the precise pressure points to target to force a spell caster to stop concentrating. If a creature within 5 feet of you is Concentrating on a spell, you can use your Bonus Action and spend 2 Ki to attempt to break it. The target must make a Constitution saving throw, the DC of which equals 10 + your proficiency modifier + your Wisdom modifier. If they fail, the spell ends immediately.
