Is there a way to get the statblock for our steel defenders easily accessible from our character sheet? I’ve been looking all over the character sheet but I cannot seem to find it.
Agreed with Correth. The Steel Defender's stats do not change on D&D Beyond with the Artificer's proficiency advancement. I can't change the skills, saves, and attacks based on the increase in the artificer's proficiency. All I can update are the HP's and AC.
Also to Note, The Force-Empowered Rend Stats do not increase as they should.
Might of the Master. The following numbers increase by 1 when your proficiency bonus increases by 1: the defender’s skill and saving throw bonuses (above), the bonuses to hit and damage of its rend attack, and the number of hit points restored by its Repair action (below).
So the Force-Empowered Rend attach should not be +4 / 1d8+2 When my Character is level 20.
you can access the Eldritch cannon in your character sheet.
Can't get picture to post, but under Actions, down by Bonus Actions, you have all the Eldritch Cannon's listed with stats and ability to keep track of HP.
Can we get a response on the Steel Defender stats being mostly wrong?
My L8 Artificer has so many errors that the stat block is currently useless. Perception, attack to-hit, attack damage, healing... all wrong. And the "Customize" button doesn't let us fix any of it.
Guess I'll create a custom monster to fix it, but this was supposed to have been available when TCE was released.
If you click on Steel Defender under Features & Traits it provides another stat block... which is also wrong. In different ways.
I don't know if anything has been announced, but if you look at the implementation of the Drake companion for the Ranger's Drakewarden, that is likely the template they will use for the Steel Defender.

We have a much better system planned, but it needs to get built. There are other systems ahead of it in the queue, such as the inventory upgrades being released now, and the system coming soon around adding blessings, boons, dark gifts etc.
Thanks, that's good to hear. The drakwarden implementation, if simple enough to do, would make a reasonable stopgap while other systems are being worked on; it would be an improvement on the current state in my opinion.
Heck, at least Drakewarden provides a decent example for making a homebrew copy of Battle Smith with Steel Defender added as an Action with pertinent info in the snippet for ease of use. I'm tempted to add Homunculus Servant in the same way.
(In the meantime while we wait for the system to implement them properly in Extras, of course.)
As a workaround, I made a Google Sheet you can use as-is or make a copy* of to do with as you will: https://bit.ly/steel_defender
Then I made a custom bonus attack for Force Rend so I'd have that on my sheet as a useable feature. Here are the options I used: https://bit.ly/3qFw4xe
How are people adding a Steel Defender in Extras? I don't get that option when I search, just an Iron Defender that doesn't seem to have the proper stats.

On the character sheet, check out the EXTRAS tab.
You can add all sorts of companions and other beasts through there (familiars etc) as well as the Steel Defender.

Awesome, thanks so much Stormknight!
Is there a way to edit the stats for extras? Say if I equip armor on one or want to give it a special ability?

Stormknight are there any plans in the works to allow us to customize stats for steel defenders?

Nor should the repair still be 2d8+2.
They don't have the Eldritch cannons up yet but the Homonuculus is up
Correct, but the status for the REN attach do not level correctly. They should adjust when your character levels.

how do i create a custom monster?
Still no word on when steel defender will be updated to increase with artificer level? It has been nearly 2 years for what should be a simple fix?
