Having an issue with creating a custom attack action so I can roll offhand attacks with my fists. Tasha's unarmed fighting style so there is a method to my madness.
Two weapon fighting doesn't provide a button to click so I've made a custom action, but setting it as dual wield doesn't remove the bonus to damage. Couldn't get the image to imbed but there's a link below.
Might not be rules as written but the DM is allowing it. That's besides the point though.
The custom attack doesn't know what I'm hitting something with. Let's pretend I have natural weapons or it's a dagger. The dial wield button still doesn't remove the strength bonus to damage like it should.
If it were a dagger then you wouldn’t need a custom action for it, you would just use an actual dagger and then two-weapon fighting works exactly as it’s supposed to.
Allow me to rephrase. I understand that you are using a houserule, but DDB is not set up to support houserules. DDB is only really set up to work with RAW, and even that needs some work. The only RAW things that can be used with two-weapon fighting are actually weapons. Since every single actual weapon in the game has been entered into DDB they all work correctly for Two-Weapon Fighting, and anything that doesn’t work correctly with Two-Weapon Fighting isn’t supposed to RAW. Since DDB only really supports RAW, then in their opinion everything is working absolutely correctly.
I’m not saying that you are wrong and that these things shouldn’t work like you want them to, I’m just explaining why they were not programmed to work the way you want them to.
The easiest thing to do would likely be to go to the homebrewer to make a magic item, use a mace as the template (for the 1d6 bludgeoning damage), and add the light and versatile properties to it, and then change the name to “My other Unarmed Strike” or whatever. The Light property will allow you to designate that it will be used for T-WF, and the Versatile property will allow you to roll the 1d8 for double fisting as per the feat. Since this is an actual weapon the system will know to deduct the Str mod from the damage roll.
The original poster is correct. When you make a custom action, there is an option for "dual wield" and it does not do anything. It SHOULD act the same as this button does when customizing equipment (check for a feat, then remove the ability bonus to damage appropriately and change it to a bonus action) but it does not do that.
I ended up giving myself a homebrew flail, for the d8 damage, and adding the light property to it. I checked the box for dual wield and that worked. Lot of extra effort to go thru though.

Let me know if I'm doing something wrong. I tested it out with a dagger and it works as advertised but my punches do 1d8 so the die wrong.
Unarmed Strikes are not weapons and so cannot be used with two-weapon fighting.

If you would like a use case, making a custom action for an attack with the shadow blade weapon created by the spell that's held in the offhand. Link to my character sheet.
