hi, is there any way you guys could add something to stop backpacks being overloaded in the character builder, im a gm that keeps a reasonable check on what players carry, and every time i check their campaign sheets they have like 72lbs of stuff in something that holds 30 !!
could you add a line of code to stop items taking it over the 30, i am not a load lawyer but i hate it when players go over the top with impossible carrying feats lol. i have a player with full backpack and pouch's that also carries shield, trident, maul, 3 javelins, and bagpipes !! and gets upset that i wont allow him to run, fight, climb etc with all that stuff on him lol. (to tight to buy a mule/cart)
sorry, i digress. please can we put a limiter on the backpack weight please :-)
Things can be affixed to the outsides of backpacks. The additional weight can simply be explained as the additional items being strapped to the outside. Most of my characters only keep their rations and torches inside to keep them dry, and everything else is on the outside.

It would be good if backpacks had the limits built in, but in the meantime I guess you have 3 options with your players.
Have a conversation with them, and tell them your going to apply penalties (disadvantage or exhaustion) as appropriate to suit the situation and excessive load.
If that’s not going to work with the players, you could either ignore the issues, or alternatively just let them find a Mule and cart (abandoned at the side of the road, for whatever reason) or even drop in a bag of holding to one of your treasure/loot piles
What I usually do is 0 out the weight of any item strapped to the outside of the park by customizing it, and the. Add that weight to the weight of the backpack itself. The total weight remains the same, but it indicates which items are inside of the pack, and which are strapped to the outside.
Another solution I have heard people use is to add a second backpack to the sheet, 0 out the weight of it, rename it “Backpack Outside,” and place the excess items into that container.
