I just bought the explorer's guide to wildmount, and looking over the items, I immediately loved the Grimoire Infinitus item that was in there. I wanted to test it out on a copy of my wizard character that I currently have when i noticed something.
You can use the grimoire as your spellbook, and you can scribe new spells into it as normal. When you prepare wizard spells using the grimoire, the number of wizard spells you can prepare increases by 1.
The information states I am able to prepare an additional spell on top of the number based on wizard level+INT modifier. However it doesn't actually change that. the character is level 6 with a +4 INT. Meaning 10 spells can be prepared. I equipped and attuned the item, but it did not let me prepare an extra spell. Is this a small glitch with the item? or is it simply that I need to keep track of the extra spell I would be preparing myself. https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/grimoire-infinitus link to the item in question. https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Slagathor1738/characters/30739099 copy of the character I used as well.
Known issue: The Grimoire Infinitus includes a feature that adds extra spells to the maximum amount a Wizard can prepare. Currently we are unable to model this on the character sheet for the item.
Because there were no official items/features than increased prepared spells when DDB started, the character sheet wasn't built to accommodate such an idea. Unfortunately, computers and code are far more rigid that the human brain and human imagination. DDB just got done with a complete re-write of the backend of the character sheet that was designed--in part--to give them more flexibility. Hopefully that means they will eventually be able to model this.
In the meantime, you could experiment with a feat or a magic item that would give them an extra spell, or they could make a note. Neither of those are perfect solutions, I know.
There is a work around; you can override your prepared spells limit by expanding the spell description and then clicking the prepare button from there. This will allow you to prepare more spells.

That doesn’t seem to work anymore since the sheet framework update. I tried it two days ago and it didn’t work.
Found a way that works, since the number of spells you can prepare is based on your intelligence modifier. On the character sheet manually increase your intelligence score to raise your modifier (Exalted adds 3 spells so raise Int score by 6), this allows you to prepare the additional spells. Once you have the spells prepared go back and remove the manual increase to return your intelligence score and the spells will still remain prepared.
Having rolled out this item/vestige to one of my players, I'd like to see a solution to this item, too - especially given how long it has been formally published and available here on D&D Beyond.
The temporary-boost-to-Intelligence workaround isn't ideal, as it means more fiddling for the player each time they alter their spell list - and what you want for your players is a smooth, admin-free style at the table.
For now, I've homebrewed the item itself, and built in a single spell that the player has said they will always have prepared (Absorb Elements), so that it appears in his spell list as 'At Will'. We have an agreement that he will then burn spell slots manually (since the 'Cast' button isn't there for At Will spells), which hopefully we won't lose track of. The downside to this approach is that the spell only appears at the base level, and doesn't appear as normal spells do in the 'upcast' style - so there's more for the player to remember, sadly.
Not an ideal workaround, but it seems that none floated so far are ideal... they are workarounds, after all. Ideally, the fix is what is necessary.

It still works for me, you just have to make sure you're using the right button.
19/18 spells prepared
Magic Missile can't be prepared
Expand the dialogue
Select 'Prepare' from the bottom
Ta da! Mo' spells
And just confirming I'm on the latest character sheet

Ah, maybe it still works for prepared casters, but it was no longer working for the Sorcerer I tried it on.

It used to. I had a Bard with way too many spells using that exact method.

I think they must have patched it because this work around seems to no longer be functional.
yeah i would like to be able to prepare another spell and get the spells that are described in the item

This actually works! Thanks!
Simply use it to prepare your mage armor or shield and you’ll never forget what those spells do anyway. That’s how I’ve been dealing w qol issue.
The workaround to prep over the limit doesn't look to work anymore.
This item has been around for years now, are we not ever going to see it actually work in dnd beyond?
Agreed, maybe if we tag the helpdesk workers? Does anyone have their information?
I’m quite certain the help desk folks know about it. Tagging them isn’t going to make it happen any sooner.
