Not sure if I am at the right place to ask the question. I have been trying to create a shield that, when equipped and attuned, wouldn't require the shield proficiency (so no disadvantage to saving throw) or just give the shield proficiency while equipped. I tried to do it using the Modifier option in the homebrew magic item creation, but it doesn't seem to do anything (no change in on the character sheet, still disadvantage on saving throw displayed when equipping the shield).
If there's a way to make this work? Any magic item I could use as a reference? I know that pact of the blade Warlock will overwrite a bunch of things when selecting a weapon as a pact weapon. Doing something like that would also work.
So you’ve tried: “Modifier—>Proficiency; Modifier Subtype—>Shields” and that didn’t work? It should as far as I know, but there are some glitches they are still working out because of the new character sheet framework.
Or did you try “Modifier—>Proficiency; Modifier Subtype—>Self”? As far as I know, the only thing that modifier “works” for is actual armor, and I’m honestly not sure it really works for that. (The old character sheet didn’t actually track if you were wearing armor you were not proficient with before so there was no real way to test it.)
The only other thing I can think of is that when you tested it you forgot to hit “attune” maybe? It happens to everyone once in a while is why I bring it up as a possibility.
The other thing you could do is make a “Wondrous Item” that isn’t a shield and use the modifier to just add +2AC while attuned. It won’t actually be a shield, so proficiency won’t matter.

Thanks for the quick answer :).
Yes I tried the first one, Modifier—>Proficiency; Modifier Subtype—>Shields and It didn't work. I also made sure that it was attuned by the character.
I am going to try the other solution you are suggesting and report the result.
The other thing you could do is make a “Wondrous Item” that isn’t a shield and use the modifier to just add +2AC while attuned. It won’t actually be a shield, so proficiency won’t matter.
