The biggest restrictions are Enlarge/Reduce as a Swiss Army Knife of a spell is that A) it takes concentration and B) it can only last up to a minute. It would be nice to be able to get your DM to approve upcasting the spell for longer duration. Perhaps that can be a future Artificer subclass ability.
Or just get some sorcerer points and metamagic
I think the issue with using metamagic is that the RAW Sorcerer gets only a few metagic types, so Extended Spell is rarely worth it. Plus, extending a spell from 1 minute to 2 minutes doesn't actually make it much more useful.
Wasn't on your list, but I would have to say Vortex Warp. I have used this spell to some hilarious and useful effects. My favorite one was probably when we were crossing a rope bridge 60' above a river when an Ogre stepped out of the trees at the end of the bridge. We were level 3. I rolled the highest initiative, and warped the ogre down into the river then walked away. DM just said "Well......that happened..."
Since the question is "Favourite" and not "Best" I want to tip my hat to Phantasmal Force. I love the creativity this promotes, trying to think of illusions to project into the mind of my target, so that they don't hesitate and do an Investigation. Always trying to come up with stuff that's believable, and that fits the current scenario. Examples include pulling a bag over my victims head that makes them suffocate, or they are attacked by a constrictor snake, or they are on fire, or a rock falls from the ceiling and is slowly crushing them. Fun. If the enemy knows I can cast Web, try casting Phantasmal Force that makes them think they are caught in a Web. Works great on big strong enemies, like Ogres, because they think they are strong enough to break out, but it's actually an Intelligence save. Lol.
I used to think cloud of daggers is mid, but it's really good because there's no save, just like magic missile.

Yes, I like beholders. Yes, I curated an exquisite personality for commoner #2864. Yes, my catchphrase is "are you sure?"
Misty step is fine if you are not a Ranger or a Rogue.... I prefer Web for incapacitating the enemies and not giving the chance to rush/charge over the party or you.

How good it is sort of depends on how the DM lets you place it. It is a 5 foot cube, squares are 5 foot cubes. I've seen some DM say it fills one cube on a battlemap, others let you place it where 4 squares intersect so its part way into 4 squares. It is still a small area, but not unreasonable on the 4 square method that you'd frequently hit 2 people. On the 1 square method well 1 target and its harder to shove people into it as part of the round its occupied.
The rules on area of effect placement are not the clearest, and I can and have seen DMs rule both ways. Personal opinion if the designers wanted it to hit 4 squares, it should be a 10 foot cube and say it has to line up with the cube. But if its 5 foot cube and can line up to hit 4 squares or 1 based on placement it is a bit more versatile. Which is also fine, if the rules were clearer and with examples of both placements. This is all we get choose an intersection of squares or hexes to be the point of origin, If an area of effect covers at least half a square or hexes, the entire square or hex is affected.
Don't know how to draw square in a post but _____ and + are both intersections of squares. Using thunder wave as an example the line right in front of your character is a intersection, the point 45 degree angle above you is as well. If the intent is line above you it goes 7.5 feet in each direction and 15 feet up, effecting a 4 by 3 area. If its the + it hits a 3 by 3. Both well its more versatile now. Lightning bolt Is it just the 5 foot path in front of you or 5 foot path in front of you and another 5 feet on either the left or right. If you allow the + create bonfire is now a pretty dang good cantrip, and makes the new acid splash look pretty bad in comparison. And this gets more complicated with these style effects that trigger when you go into their space. You don't allow a medium creature to stand at a intersection and make their space 4 squares. Can static AoE effects do it. it is one thing when its a blast and that is the things one shot damage for that they gave you the 1/2 rule, but can a medium thing take up the space for a large thing.
They have the nice pictures for creatures based on size on squares and hexes, too bad they did not do the same for area of effects.
The RAW seems to allow either _ or + based on casters choice, but its not clear that is RAI and again what is the cloud of daggers space for entering it if its on the +.

It is at least 1/2 of a square which I think means 50% or more not must be any amount more than 50%, but I could be reading it wrong. Admittedly I had a brain fart with the 1 sq one it would fill 1/4 of a 4 squares not 1/2. But in theory it could hit 2 squares with the at least 1/2 rule. But does it occupy those squares. I would think no, but i'm not sure how to handle it. It is much easier when you do 1 square fills 1 square rule.

AntonSirius, Course I could, but when I created the character I didn't know how much useful a loud knocking sound would be ^^
