I have a couple questions for my Wizard Character (who is a variant Human by the way). I rolled high for my constitution (15, but I can increase it by one to get 16) and I'm very happy with that. However, my dexterity score is lacking (which is only 8). I need dexterity for my armor class, but is it necessary for a wizard? I can use spells like shield and mage armor to protect myself as well as spells that give me some movement options (like misty step which I plan to obtain through my level 4 feat). Thus, is having an AC of 9 for a wizard ok? Plus I don't mind playing a character with low dexterity. I think its fun!
I have one last question. I'll be joining the school of enchantment so I'd like to put some points into charisma. How much should I put in? should I have 14 or 15 charisma, or a nice 16?
Nothing is wrong with your health, but with an Armor Class of 9, that could be a problem. Definitely utilize the Shield spell, like you already stated, and once your level 5 or so, start casting Mage Armor on yourself consistently, since it lasts for 8 hours, and you won't be using 1st level spell slots as much. A 14 or 15 Charisma is all you really need in the early game, so that's fine for now. I'd recommend getting it up to 16 past 8th level though, but don't feel rushed to do it. Just be careful when you're using your Enchanting Gaze feature, since you need to get right in their face to use it, and with a low AC like that you could end up taking a big hit, and be really screwed if you don't have the slots to cast Misty Step and get out of there. Still, it sounds like a fun build, and I hope it turns out that way.
Ah, I see. Thank you for your insight! It has been very helpful.
At level one I have 8 8 15 17 8 16 for my special- I mean ability scores (too much FN:NV for me, I see). I decided to start off with 16 charisma anyways, but I don't plan on raising it any further any time soon. I start off with the telekinetic feat, and at level four I take fey touched for 18 int. Then I max out intelligence to 20 when at level 8. At level 12 I plan to take resilient to get my constitution increased to 16 and having a saving throw for what I hear is one of the most important throws in the game alongside wisdom (but I don't have high wisdom unfortunately). Fey touched will give me misty step which will be very important for my characters build, and at 1st level I get telekinesis which allows me to utilize my bonus action as well as to (hopefully) keep me out of harms way.
I definitely learnt a lot when building past character, especially the two paladins I worked on not too long a go. So while this build isn't perfectly optimized, I believe it will create a very unique and interesting play style where I use my abilities to avoid getting into danger while using my high intelligence and charisma for role play.
I value dex far too highly to consider playing a wizard with an 8 dex. I value not taking hits rather than trying to tank the hits and make conc saves.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I wouldn’t prioritize Charisma very much personally myself. One of the advantages of being an enchanter is that instead of needing to be charming or personable you get to cheat and use magic.
Me personally, I would put way more priority on Dex or Wis than Charisma in terms of mechanical advantage. Dex will not only help you not get hit by attacks, it is also important to a wizard for their initiative too. In combat one of the things wizards are often particularly good for is battlefield/enemy control. It’s harder to control things effectively if the enemy has already gone and done something before you can even act. Plus Dex is one of the three most used saving throws (Dex, Cha, Wis), so having a negative number there can end up really being an issue sometimes. And of those three main saving throws, Wis is the one that wizards are proficient at, so having any boost from the ability itself in addition to proficiency turns it from being decent to strong.
Of course, all of that is just taking mechanical advantage into consideration. If you have strong RP reasons for prioritizing things differently then go for it.
Those are good points. but it did get me thinking as to why I built this character the way I did. I wanted to play a high intelligence character but also have high charisma. Unfortunately, there are no classes or subclasses that value both charisma and intelligence (except for arcane trickster maybe, but I don't want to play as a rouge). The school of enchantment excited me as it's probably the closest I'm going to get to that. Furthermore, I like role-playing with low dex and even low wisdom. I know that sounds stupid as the scores are rather important, but being someone who isn't dexterous in real life and can be rather absent minded at times; having low scores in these fields helps me connected with these character which allows me to immerse myself. Does that sound weird or too self insert-y? In fact, now that I remember, I tried building a paladin with several high scores with strength, constitution, charisma, AND intelligence, and it was all over the place. I was very pleased with being too multi-class in the hexblade warlock so I could focus less on strength and more on charisma, I still did not feel satisfied and kept second guessing myself. THIS enchantment wizard, however, feels near perfect and I love it!
Saying all of that makes me feel a bit silly, all things considered, but I never know how the character will turn out if I never try in the first place, and I think it will be fun! (or I'm overthinking things way too much- or both... Probably both)
It’s not silly at all. You do you, play what you wanna play. Don’t let some strangers on the internet tell you there’s a right or wrong way to do things. This is D&D. As long as you’re not ruining anybody else’s good time there is no wrong way to D&D.
Even in my last post I was specific to point out that those points I made were only taking into account what was numerically advantageous, and that if you had character driven reasons to make different choices then you should. As long as you’re having fun, that’s the important part. It’s your character after all, not anyone else’s. I will caution you to not see too much of yourself into any one character though, it sucks extra, extra hard if those characters die.
Ha! Thanks. Don't worry. At the end of the day I understand that it's just a game so I shouldn't get to upset over anything (except for that one time I was playing a paladin and was attempting to open a coffin, but ended up flipping the whole thing over, and the our rouge who has the lowest strength comes along and opens it with ease. THAT was pretty embarrassing, but very funny!)
Again, thanks for your advice, it really helps. Cheers!
I would look for a way to get access to Heavy armor. If you are a Mountain Dwarf, that's the best option IMO because you also don't need the STR requirement for the armor. It would be interesting to meet a charming dwarf wizard in full plate. If you aren't a dwarf, can you take a level of fighter, or even paladin? You would have plenty of spell slots to use for smite as a paladin/wizard.

I started playing D&D from the basic box set in 1979.
Thanks for the reply, but after talking with my future party, I've decided to go for a Human fighter eldritch knight as opposed to a wizard. Since then I have been very happy with my character!
