I love how DnDBeyond adds up all of your bonuses and makes checks with a single click, but where is the button/link/whatever for our tool checks? I would love if these checks could be as easy as proficiencies, To Hit, abilities, etc. Thanks!
Unlike skills or weapons, the rules do not assign a specific stat to tools. They specifically allow you to be creative and come up with ways to use INT or WIS or DEX, etc for a lot of the tools. So the character sheet can't pick something for you. However, if you have a stat that you'll use a lot (like how most people use DEX for thieves' tools) you can make a custom skill using that stat. Just know that it won't sort alphabetically with the rest of your stats, the custom ones will stay at the bottom.

Skill checks are most commonly done using a specific ability.
Tool checks are not and may require any sort of ability. Therefore they are not listed with a roll, especially since they will typically occur less anyway. The idea is you would do a manual roll based on what the DM asks.
You are free to customise the Skills and add whatever kind of similar roll you want.

This. I've used the custom skill feature to add tools checks to my character (actually just the default use of thieves' tools, i.e. dex+proficiency bonus for my rogue). The fun bit is you can custom-name the skill - because my rogue was a kobold scout, I named his thieves' tools check "saurus army knife" because he is a "kob scout" (picture a kobold version of the kid from UP).

If you add Tools as “custom skills” there is a fairly decent sized blank “description” field. You can even copy/paste excerpts from Xanathar’s there with suggested DCs and notes on how those tools could interact with various skills to potentially grant advantage or other added benefits. That info will display on the sidebar for easy referencing later.
