I created a 1st level Elf Ranger with 17 Constitution and the Max Hit points it shows on the character sheet is 15. Unless I am missing something this is wrong it should be 10 (ranger base) + 3 (Con add) for a total of 13.
Go back into the builder for the character (click the anvil button on the character sheet). On the home tab of the builder, toggle the Hit Points from Fixed to Manual (or vice versa) and back again. That should fix it. It's a bug related to choosing a character's Hit Point type before choosing their class. I think it only happens when the toggle is set a particular way at the beginning, but I never remember for sure which setting triggers it.
If that doesn't do it, please a link to your character sheet.
Note that I did not set this for 'Manual' hit points. As I recall, I followed the normal progression in creating the character up to the point where I was selecting the 'Background'.
The HP type menu is in the Home section of the builder which is the first - before you even choose your Race. So most people end up choosing to set to HP to Manual long before they've chosen their class. It's why it's such a common bug to be reported - because DNDBeyond has basically designed the character creation process to have it always be a problem - unless you already know about the bug.
Thanks - I can't imagine I would have done this, but perhaps I will gen a new character so I can see the flow (and if it jogs my memory on doing so).
Edit: Just looked at the build wizard, and yes I did select 'Manual'. The issue here (which might be addressed with better descriptive text there) is that if you take the default ('Fixed'), most people with assume this is set for the life of the character, and if you want to roll for hit points (after first levels fixed value) then 'Manual' would be the proper choice for this.
This quirk of the character builders logic has been passed along to the team for them to have a look at it. It's one of those weird cases where the system has to do something but isn't necessarily doing that something in a clear or intuitive way. Thanks for the feedback!

Establish boundaries. And if anyone crosses them, speak up. If they don’t listen, there’s always cloudkill …
Well it doesn't really matter what it sets the HP to after setting it to Manual but before you choose your class - as long as the moment you do choose your class - it automatically fixes it.
Alternatively (or additionally) - put the HP type option inside the Manage HP menu on the class page. That way - people are far more likely to have already picked their class first. And it kind of belongs there anyway.
My max hp is 5 and that is vary low and I did the trick were you change fixed to manual and back again but it didn't work. Does anyone know another trick!?
If you have it set to Fixed, then the math is definitely correct. I’m betting you have a class with a low-sized hit die and a negative Constitution modifier.

Thanks - I was able to correct the value. For some reason it had assigned points as 12 (vs 10).
It's a known bug. If you choose Manual HP before choosing your class - it automatically fills 12 in for some reason.

That reason being it doesn’t know any better so it automatically defaults to the highest possible Hit Die size which is the Barbarians’ d12.

My class is Cleric and I'm a Aarakocra
What's your Constitution modifier?

-3
A Cleric’s starting HP of 8+CON (aka 8-3) would indeed be 5, then.

it's just so low though
Well yeah, that’s why most people avoid taking a -3 CON.
