I don't know why trust is an issue, as long as you aren't uploading images of your personal details, why care?
You can use a site like imgur, does the job.
Otherwise, do without. D&D Beyond should not have to host images for you.

I don't know why trust is an issue, as long as you aren't uploading images of your personal details, why care?
Because apps are insidious. It’s not just what one uploads, it’s all of the constant tracking of where you go, how you move, and the conversations around you that I don’t trust. Modern phones track your steps, GPS locations, conversations, purchases, when you sleep, everything. The apps are designed to mine as much of that data as possible. They basically **** your device for as much information as they can.
Why would a company spend piles of money to develop an app, just to give it away for free? Because the app isn’t the product. The app is a lure, like the light on an angler fish. The people who download those apps are the products, and the true customers are the people with purchase all of that valuable information about those people.
Discord insisted that I grant it full access to my photos, even though there was absolutely 0 need for it. Why? I had absolutely no intention of ever uploading photos to discord. The app could get access to my camera without needing access to my photo library. So why did the app insist on that access and refuse to function without it?!? I got sexy pics of my wife, Discord don’t need me to grant access to those. So why insist?
You will want to copy the "Direct Image Link" be sure to click ctrl-a to get all the text in that link. The HTML Embed Code will not work for DnD beyond.
Mine did not automatically fill dimensions so don't panic if yours doesn't.
If you use the website for Imgur.com you can switch to the desktop version and then you can sign up for an account and use it to host images for DDB without downloading the app.
for those of you having issues with imgur, once you copy and paste the url for the imgur upload into the insert image url box, simply manually type in ".jpg" at the end and click okay. it should work then

Sorry for raising this thread from the dead, but I'm having difficulty putting a campaign map image on my campaign page. The image is hosted on my website, I've tried doing it while specifying dimensions and constraints or not. The image shows up in the editor but then doesn't show up when I view the campaign page. When I go back and view the source to the campaign page, I see that the editor has changed the source link from:
Maybe something with how the image is being hosted on your server.
Put it on Imgur and use that link instead. Works fine then.

After some further checking: basically your server is private, and is denying all external uses. So, while you can use the url to get to the image directly in a browser, it cannot be embedded or used in forums, not even with the IMG html tag. You will need to change your server settings or just upload the image externally to a site that allows hosting.

I know that not every image host can be used here, for example images hosted by Google don’t work and behave much like this. I know you wrote that the image is hosted on your website, but what precisely do you mean?
It's my website in that I'm paying for hosting space and a private server. This is a new host for me and I haven't worked all the kinks out with them yet so this may be some setting I need to tweak in the admin console. In the meantime, I followed the suggestion from the post Saraphim24made and demangled a google photo link and that got the map to load to my campaign page. Thanks for the help!
Looking at how many people are requesting help with this issue, and how many people this thread has helped, it's obviously not "so simple". I'm following the thread and I'm still having issues.

and if we don't trust third parties and want to directly upload from pc?
DDB doesn’t host images like that. I also do not trust 3rd parties, so I cannot share photos.

This is now called embed Google Photos if anyone is concerned when the link redirects. It can also be reached here. Embed Google Photos - Add Images from Google Photos in your Website (labnol.org)
