I saw from a previous thread that a staff member could unlock them manually, but i'm not sure how to get in touch with one directly so i'm trying here.

That is for support staff. Mods work all the time (I'm actually not sure if they keep regular hours or if they just check whenever). I noticed it seems mod presence in support forum is lower lately, or maybe there are just too many threads.
@OP and anyone with bug. Do you have a subscription that ended lately? Without a subscription, you can only have 6 characters. When the sub ends, it should have asked you to select 6 characters that would remain unlocked and it will lock all unselected characters (even if you selected less than 6 or even 0) until you have 6 or less or a sub again.
The only thing I can think to try is logging out and back in. Have you tried that?
This is the third similar report I've seen. I can only suggest contacting support and hopefully this will get sorted quickly (worst case it may not get fixed till monday).
This seems to be a new bug plaguing x-subscribers the last few days. I have not seen any of the many threads on this get an official reply yet.
The only work around that I have seen is to get a new sub. Obviously this is not reasonable for everyone and I can't recommend spending money just to avoid a bug.
Same shit just happened to me. This is a massive oversight on their part. At the very, VERY least they should give us an option to unlock these characters again once we're at the character limit and not exceeding it.

Hi everyone, the Devs have deployed a fix for this. Please refresh D&D Beyond and go to your character screens and you should see unlock links on your characters!

Getting errors or very long loading times on my end as well, including on characters that are not using any homebrew. Some of the error codes:

By the time you left this message they had left for the weekend. It was 9pm (EST) when you left this, so 6pm their time. They clocked out by 5pm.

All we can do is report it and hope it is fixed quickly.

Did that player previously have a sub? There is a new bug that is locking character sheets of such accounts (it really sucks).
I have finished catching up on bug reports. Looks like you are not alone and it effects a lot of x-subscribers.
