Hey, I just noticed that the gloves of swimming and climbing are applying the +5 bonus to Athletics, period, when the item should only give +5 for swimming or climbing checks, but not any other Athletics checks that might be made. As it is, when attuned and equipped, the gloves change my Athletics bonus from +5 to +10, meaning they're also making me better at grappling, shoving foes, jumping, etc.
I was just looking at this as well. I was trying to design a weapon that gives a situational bonus, and couldn't figure out how to keep it from adding a bonus to the base skill (applying to all rolls). Thought that the Gloves would show me how to do it, but they obviously work the same way. Adding in a +5 for all athletics checks kinda defeats their main purpose.
