Hi, I'm making a homebrew monk subclass and now getting this error:
"This homebrew Subclass does not have the necessary class features with the correct required levels."
I understand from this post that Monks are suppose to have features at 3, 6, 11, 17 but I am modeling my subclass after the "way of four elements monk" and that subclass is allowed to have only two class features but over a dozen options (as is the case with my subclass).
Is this the feature working as intended and just giving four elements a pass or am I missing something else?
Instead it looks more like this under class features and then under elemental disciplines it has 17 class feature options:
CLASS FEATURE OPTIONS (17)
I thought this would be valid since this is an official class. However if it's not, kind raises the question of how this class only has 2 features and is still considered valid even by 5e standards. :/
Either way, I modeled my subclass the same way. If it's invalid I'll go ahead and add hidden features so it can get published. However if it's valid for an official class it should be valid for a homebrew class. I think for consistency, four elements might either need the same number of class features or the max amount of class features required of the monk should dropped to 2.
It doesn’t matter how things display in the builder, as class features can get designated to be hidden in the builder. Instead of making your subclass from scratch and trying to build it the way you think WotFE was built based on how it looks, instead use the WotFE as a template for your subclass and then just change what you want changed. That way you’ll know it was done correctly.
In addition, the system only checks those compliances when the main [SAVE CHANGES] button under Basic Information has been hit.
Just an update for anyone else who may look this up. If you copy the WotFE into homebrew and then change it enough not to be the same class this will not be enough.
I've also tried making fake hidden class features which also did not solve the issue.
After you add/change things, you must re-save the entire Homebrew using the main [SAVE CHANGES] button under Basic Information for the system to recheck compliances, etc.
In addition, if you have only just finished designing the subclass it’s better not to publish it right away anyway. Once you do you cannot edit anything anymore, so it is always best practice to thoroughly playtest and edit your homebrews prior to publication.
Yeah, I made sure to save from the base page. I think there is a minimum number of "class feature options" you can have that need to line up with the elemental monk exactly. My sub class has fewer for balance reasons (I only want players to pick 1 per class feature level unlock so just 4 in total, WotFE has 5, 2 given at level 3).
I've been working on the class and getting feedback on it for over a month now so I'm pretty confident about publishing it. I also know you can push out new versions of a subclass (As I have in the past with the 2 other classes I've made), however all the stats get overwritten so your total views and downloads of the content over time aren't displayed properly.
Either way, I'm going to keep messing with it and see if I can get the system to accept it. I'll update here if I eventually do get it to work. I just wish they didn't mark this as resolved because I'm going to have to find a work-around which hasn't happened yet :/. I'd really like it out there so I can link to it for more feedback, I'll be having it play tested soon too in a game I'll be DMing.
All you need is a minimum of 1 feature per required level, and no features at any other level. If you have that, you shouldn’t be having any issue. Please post a link to your homebrew so a Mod or Staffer (not me) can look into it for you.

I thought so too but that isn't how the class is displayed in the builder:

Okay, I was worried this would be the solution. But thank you for sharing it. I'll start working on it now.

Sure. And funnily enough, the original one I had given up on has suddenly become publishable....

Here is the one I was making using WotFE as a template:

I'm going to work on the old one and see if I can't hide those other features better.
