So I have a friend who has most of the dnd expansion books and I wanna make a character with some class or race from one of those expansions but the only ones I can choose are the free ones and I don't see any point in buying the expansions since my friend already has it. Is it meant to be like this or am I missing something
Does your friend “own” the books here on DDB or in print? If they own them here, one of you could purchase a Master Tier subscription, start a campaign, and create a character inside of the campaign using those options.
if they own the books only in physical form and you know what you want to build, you can just purchase the race, subclass, etc. That you need; you don’t have to purchase entire “books” here. If you just need a character or two, this might even be cheaper than a subscription.
Alternatively, if you have access to the books you can enter what you want to use for free as a “homebrew” subclass/race/background/feat/spell and use it for free.
But usually it’s easier to just buy the thing you want for the $2. If you buy enough prices of a book for $2, pretty soon you can just buy the whole rest of the book for $2 because every purchase counts as credit towards the whole book.
