I, as a dm, like to make notable NPCs as playable dnd characters, to better utilize them incase combat comes up. Meaning I have upwards of 40 characters at a time and finding the character I need can be tedious. I wish there was a way to organize characters into groups, like "My PCs" or "Strixhaven Characters" and stuff like that, like files in file explorer. So instead of being greeted with 40+ characters in a long list when I open the character tab, I could be greeted by carefully curated and organized groups, so I can navigate to the group I am looking for quickly.
Same. This is what I came here to say. I've requested this feature in the discord before as well. I need someway to organize my characters. I have NPCs for various separate campaigns, I have player characters for those rare opportunities to step away from the DM Screen. I am also the type that likes to build characters, various levels and what not, like just last night I built a character based around the idea of being a slime. I digress. Being able to organize these characters into folders/groups of some kind would make things so much easier when trying to track down that one NPC that just had to pop up when you weren't prepared.
I'll third this one. As a DM I will also point out that not all your players will necessarily have or want to use Beyond, so being able to set things up so you have a copy of their character would be amazingly helpful. Folders would go a long way toward helping with that, along with all the other points mentioned above.
I also think a folder feature for homebrew would be great, to separate homebrew magic items from say my Strixhaven campaign and my Eberron campaign. And then you could integrate the content sharing feature into that as well, making it so you can choose to only share a specific folder of homebrew things with certain players. I.e. Strixhaven homebrew magic items can only been seen by my Strixhaven players.
This is potentially the most asked for feature on this site. I have been playing for a few years now through a dozen campaigns. I have tonnes of old characters who's sheets I want to hold onto. Currently I put [DEAD], [OLD], [SPARE], and etc. to sort them but it would be a massive quality of life improvement to have a folder system I could open and close so I don't always see those characters.
Folders could easily be locked behind the subscription (who need it most due to >6 characters). I just want a way to archive old characters so I can access them down the line, or look back at the sheets. It would also be a massive quality of life improvement for the Homebrew Collection section, it doesn't take much for that to get extremely cluttered.
1000% agree.. Been wanting this for the better part of two years. Further more to add to the NPC's.. As a DM not all my NPC's are "adventurers" I would love a class option "NPC" so they can have a character sheet so I can look at their proficiencies, HP, etc. but they aren't a level 1 fighter or bard but a normal old person! Give me an option where they are just an NPC and I can use the custom background feature to add more.
I would love this feature too. When I design combat encounters, I manually create characters for the NPC combatants (greatly increasing difficulty for the combat). I'm fairly pleased with how it all turned out, but now I have lots of character spam in my list of characters. It would be great if I could have one folder for combat encounters, and from there could separate it into orcs, goblins, and whatever else might have been needed.
Like everyone else, I think this would be a great feature to add.

Compromise where you can. Where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, "No. You move."
Absolutely!! The fact that there is no way to sort through characters or homebrew monsters for NPCs is very frustrating for DMs. Since the VTT requires a player or homebrew monster token be created to even populate it on the battlemap, this will lead to a lot of bloat in created characters and homebrew monster NPCs. Folders are a must!!

I agree with this 100%

Please make it happen wotc. I often lose my overview with that unsorted mess of characters.
Two and a half years later, we still want this!
