I love that about every other month, the DnDBeyond shills will start making the exact same arguments that have been debunked already. Please understand, everyone here loves DnDBeyond. Its BECAUSE we love DnDBeyond that we want to push this change so hard. The opportunity to integrate my homebrew with where I keep the rest of my resources would be incredible. I think I need to restate for the shills as always:
The goal is NOT some mystical magical over 9000 combinations homebrew class creator. At the very least, not at any point in the conceivable future.
The goal is just having the ability to have a blank main class that I can add hit dice, proficiencies, caster type (full/half), and features/traits because my current options are to make a shell-class using the subclass system and then just ignore whatever base main-class I'm using OR to just use Roll20 because they actually let me edit my own character sheet manually despite being an extremely obnoxious program to use. Hell, Roll20 even has a thing called "Class Resource" where you can determine what type of dice your class resource is and how many you have. I have made and playtested several homebrew classes at this point, and none would require anything more than this.
None of this stuff is complicated; DnDBeyond simply isn't interested in working on it right now, which is what this thread is trying change.
I love people who DON'T WORK AT DDB telling us what the site can and can't do.
Class homebrewing is frankly WAY more complicated that "subclass with extra steps"
As davyd has said classes can do ANYTHING meaning that ya'll will be super upset if they just released a homebrew maker now because it would be exactly like what we have. The ony options you get would be copies of the existing class options, your ability to create new mechanics would be 0.
None of this stuff is complicated; DnDBeyond simply isn't interested in working on it right now, which is what this thread is trying change.
"None of this stuff is complicated" Really? Glad to know you're such an expert on the backend of the system here. C'mon, man.
You are correct in stating that this hasn't been a priority for the dev team, despite the vocal minority here who continue to advocate for it (and should!). No one is denying that it would be wonderful to have in place. But the facts seem to point to the conclusion that is certainly IS complicated, else it would have been done by now. It makes zero sense to devote resources to pushing out some half-baked solution that wouldn't satisfy many of those people asking for it. They know a full revamp is needed, and that simply isn't on the near-future timeline (as far as we know.)
So please - DO continue to advocate for getting this added, but I don't think you or any of us on the outside can say with any sort of certainly that it should be an easy thing to add. Continuing to push that narrative is insulting to those who do know the system.

Just because something hasn't been yet, doesn't mean its not easy. For example, the little box to tick that a weapon was a Hexblade weapon took several months to come into being and literally all it does is tell the interface to show things based on the Charisma Mod instead of Strength/Dex. That's something you can do on an Excel spreadsheet. At the time of writing this, Artificer has been out for what, a year now? And they still haven't made a little box to tick that you're a Battle Smith and can use your Int instead of Strength/Dex.
What's insulting is that people who also know nothing about the backend of DDB will froth at the mouth to defend them. If you're telling me that creating virtual dice that have a full physics system is easier than creating a textbox that references a data-set, then I'm not sure anything that's said would be enough evidence to you that DDB has simply thrown this to the wayside. They are currently far more interested in the flashy toys like virtual dice and encounter builders (which I think are pretty cool) which attract new users who are typically new to dnd and want the simplicity of DDB, instead of more verteran players who want alot more customizeability.
To reference you saying they shouldn't push out half-baked solutions, all I have to do is point towards the encounter-builder which is a huge WIP, and as it should be! Any sort of homebrew creator would follow the same development process of Alpha->Beta->Release.
We are the customers. DDB deserves our respect and patience, BUT we also deserve to hear from them on these sorts of things and get answers on why they aren't acting in our interests. After homebrew just dropped off their roadmap, its been radio-silence.

Strong disagree on this one, for example, the combat tracker isn't perfect. You still can't do attack rolls like in a character sheet or add conditions to the monsters. But this system is still helpful even though this isn't perfect. To make the class creating system complex, DDB must start with something simple. And as Dreyethel said, we are the costumers, and there is a big chance, that if we will show DDB that this is an important for as, I am sure they will at least think about it. And as we saw in the poll in this thread most people want it.
The blank shell classes aren't that complicated its an empty base class that uses the same subclass homebrew system. That was the interim solution that never came.
lol - then go program an entire website using Excel if it is so easy. YOU DO NOT WORK AT DDB so stop saying how easy something on their code can be done.
Yes we are DDB customers, but they don't owe us something that is not promised. They never promised a HB class system they simply said they would like to make one for us. That's it. But y'all act like this is some 5 year promise that they have been putting off and off and off.

I am not working at DDB but I do know a thing about programing and there is nothing complicated about using an already existing program of creating features with few changes (and those changes ARE simple). Also, we don't say this like they have promised as anything but we do suggest here some ideas for basic version of it so things will at least continue forward. If they will say that they won't do it, then okay. But they have said in several DDB forums they would like to do this but this is not a something they will do soon because they have other things they must fix before. (I can't remember the exact forum but I asked about it and this is what they have said).
You are correct in stating that this hasn't been a priority for the dev team, despite the vocal minority here who continue to advocate for it (and should!).
Vocal Minority!?!
Are you not aware this whole thread is a POLL and stands at 3236 of 3264 saying "YES!" they want homebrew classes?
What do we need, about 4 or 5 more to become the majority? We're so close I can taste it!!

A quick reminder that, regardless of any personal experiences with coding, any guesses about the complexity or difficulty of implementing anything on the D&D Beyond site are just that - guesses.
There are also numerous other complexities around usability/accessibility, interaction, contracts, prioritisation and that last one is big.
The simple way of looking at it is that we prioritise work on new features that will make as much positive difference for many users as possible. It's a sliding scale, but the more impact the feature makes and the higher percentage of people who it will impact, the higher the score.
We also review feedback across many different mediums/platforms and whilst it's true that a fair few people have clicked on the poll, there are many other features that we know are much more popular.
I know that's not a palatable answer, if what you really want is to add your homebrew class to the site, but I'd rather explain than just say, "We know"
You know, if you want to play a homebrew class, you can easily find a fillable character sheet on Wizards site i believe. I know, that’s not the same as Beyond with its fancy character sheets, but it is the best you can get if you want to play a homebrew class.

as said above, yeah, out of 7 millions people... only 10% actually uses the forum, and thats 700,000 people that actually use the forum. out of that only 3200 actually voted yes... i don'T know for you... but to me... you'd need at least 10 times that amount to become a priority. that said... congratulation... over the years it passed from "Nope" to "Maybe !" which is what your 3200 has done !
so congratulation to you.

my problem with that reply, is that there are tons of websites on the net that did this over a week end. and they were alone... you are not alone in your department and even if we add the time to do everything you say you do, like business deals and everything... which is by the way totally understandable... it still feels very slow process for something that shouldn'T be that slow to begin with. all that said... i just think, at this point, that its beyond who is slow on purpose. i think the developpers are stuck in "too careful" teritory, you know when you absolutely want an item to be perfect and you suddently go from 6 month doing it to 13 years ! there is this thing we call hype, and many a games have lost their hype and ended up bombing because the hype train sailed away long ago. i know you are not a gaming company either... but what if curse gaming back int he days, had been waiting 5 years before starting to develop any mods for any games or programs for any games. i don't think curse would have been the company it was or is. don't know if it still exists since its been bought. anyway point is... too much wating perfection is the same as not enough wanting it to happen. wait long enough and it will bomb in the water. do not enough and it will still bomb in the water.
all that said... i''m quite happy with the things we get, i just think you are passing way too much time on the said things. but still, your dev team deserves a praise for everything they've done. s consider them praised by me. go ahead keep up the good work.

We can address the wild custom classes that diverge from the standard spell progression and such after we get the first blank classes for homebrew.
