As a DM, I'm always looking up spells to confirm that the players are using them right. So a quick search is helpful. I frequently use a different site.
The best things I like about it are: 1) instant filter as I type the name of the spell. This is just faster than typing, then clicking/pressing a button, then waiting for a page postback. 2) a button or link to open the spell details in a new tab. I like having the main list to search in one tab and then open multiple spells in new tabs to reference for the next several rounds of combat.
All the extra metadata is fantastic...thank you and keep up the good work!
I like my spells sortable by level, then alpha. I know you can hit the arrow to sort it that way, but it resets every time you do any kind of filter. It would be nice if it saved the last sort state until you choose a new one.
I would love the ability to pin spells to a quick reference dashboard. Perhaps a DM notes/DM Screen section where I could save off some spells I know I'm going to have to reference during a game.
Sounds like you're going to love what's coming later on in the beta then! :)
I know it's been mentioned that some spells are missing, so I went through the Player's Handbook to make note of which ones aren't in the compendium.

An asterisk indicates that the spell technically is listed, but without the possessive proper noun (e.g. Tasha's Hideous Laughter is listed simply as Hideous Laughter). However, not all spells with the possessives are listed that way. For example, while three of the Mordenkainen's spells are listed without the name (Faithful Hound, Magnificent Mansion, and Private Sanctum), the compendium does have Mordenkainen's Sword listed as such. Another example of this is Melf's Acid Arrow (listed as Acid Arrow) vs Melf's Minute Meteor (listed as such).
Bigby's Hand is marked with two asterisks as its name is completely different: the spell Arcane Hand in the compendium shares a description with Bigby's Hand.
These inconsistencies make the spell compendium counter-intuitive at times and add unnecessary complications to its use.

During the beta test of D&D Beyond, we'll only be including content that is freely available from Wizards of the Coast, including the D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion and potentially others. The beta will not include additional content from a Commercially Released Book, Module or Supplement.
All of the remaining published content from the PHB, DMG, MM and other D&D 5th edition books will be added to D&D Beyond for product release - the cost for accessing this material has not yet been announced.

On the ones with the name in front of them, take it off. Tasha's Hideous Laughter is in there as Hideous Laughter. So anything that is in the SRD/Basic spell listings that originally had a name on it, is in there without it. So a few of these do exist in the free stuff currently available while testing. =)
But as our wonderful moderator pointed out, all the PHB is is not in here and I'm quite sure the devs have ALL the spells ready that will wind up in live sitting there in the background to be turned on for people with the correct access on their accounts when it goes live and we can buy and/or sub things. If they didn't already have a list of PHB spells I would have to really wonder about our devs and WotC. ;)
So let's try sticking to pointing out ways to make the spell list work better and stop worrying about what is missing unless you are positive about it being SRD/Basic stuff. This would save the devs and mods some time sorting out what is constructive help and what is already a known fact to the point they copy paste the same message over and over again. Just saying. :D
This is because all of the names (Mordenkainen, Tenser, Tasha etc) are copyright protected to WotC, so they couldn't use them in the SRD and still retain copyright (as I understand it).
I can also confirm that you're correct, there is a lot more content (PHB, DMG, MM) already added that isn't available for people to see during the beta - the staff have been very busy and are doing an amazing job.
That said, we encourage everyone to use D&D Beyond and let us know if they believe that there is a problem or omission.
Spell Titles (Mobile version of site, on a Samsung Galaxy 7) - It's understandable that the titles of spells don't always fit and that they sometimes need to be truncated with an ellipsis. However, I find that I consistently want to see what the full name of a spell is. Whenever I hit the "+" symbol to expand a spell to see the details, I keep expecting the full name of the spell to be shown, but it stays abbreviated. Then I turn my phone on it's side, hoping that the landscape format will force the full title, but that doesn't do it either. It seems the only way to get the full title displayed is to click on "View Details Page" and then rotate the phone to landscape view. That process doesn't feel very user-friendly. An example is Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting.
Class Tags (Mobile version of site, on a Samsung Galaxy 7) - When I expand the details for Dispel Magic, it doesn't show the class tags for all the classes that have access to the spell. For example, Warlock isn't visible unless you rotate the phone for landscape view.
I hope these observations are useful. Thanks again and please keep up the amazing work!
Can you have the ability to shortlist spells? Like you press a button and you can add it to a list specifically?
This is exactly what I want.
I was running a boss fight against a mage in my game, and I wanted all of the spells on their list easily at hand. So, on my laptop, I had a tab open for each spell so that i could flick between them easily as needed. But it would be so much easier to be able to add spells to a list, then go to a page with that list, click on a spell and have the full text expand out. That way you could have the list of the exact spells you needed right there, easy to see all of them, and then when you need the detail you just expand it out and then subtract it back down to just the name when you don't need it.
It currently appears as "Arcane Hand", presumably for copyright reasons. Similarly, Mordenkaiden's Magnificent Mansion is now just "Magnificent Mansion" and Nystyl's Magic Aura is "Arcanist's Magic Aura". For some reason, Mordenkaiden's Sword hasn't changed.
For making multiclass characters (and those who can take spells from multiple classes, like the Unearthed Arcana's Sorcerer [Favoured Soul]), it would be great to search for the spells from multiple classes at once.
For example, I might search for all spells of level 1-4 on the Cleric and Sorcerer lists.
Currently, you are limited to one or all classes, which makes this hard.
I've noticed that the spells form the sword coast adventures guide are missing.

Since this is the Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion Guide, and SRD combined, some possessives were able to sneak through into the free material. :)
I've noticed some spells just aren't listed for example phantasmal force and I also couldn't spot power word heal as a bard spell. Maybe take another look at the spell lists and double check.

The Core Rulebooks do NOT equal the SRD/Basic Rules. They are two separate things. This is why not all of the spells you see in the PHB are found in beyond at this time.

Adding some of the alternative names to some of the spells would be great

Maximilian's Earthen Grasp is still listed as exactly that--Maximilian's Earthen Grasp--unlike all of the other spells with possessives.
Edit: All of the EE spells with possessives still have them ( Agnazzar's Scorcher, Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting, etc.)
