While there are players in LFG on DND beyond , this will never implode , the LFG is full , the paid DMs are rubbing there hands and $30 per month will look really good because all the new players joining this will be all they know , and thats the future of DND - AI for DND one , all the old school will move on to game X and will probably return at some point - AKA the modern world as we know it .
The same sources of the leaks for OGL 1.1 which turned out to be true are saying that there's going to be a change to D&D Beyond's subscription model going forward. They're going to remove homebrew from the base level subscription tiers entirely and unlist everything made with OGL 1.0a (only OGL 1.1 licensed homebrew allowed going forward), and introduce new higher monthly fee tiers going up to $30 per month PER PLAYER (no content sharing anymore). Supposedly, they are introducing an AI-DM of some sort for those who want it, the WotC VTT will be part of this program and they will be doing, 'monthly content drops,' like this is some sort of mobile game.
That's my understanding of the changes though, Dnd Shorts is supposed to have something coming out by tomorrow about the thing.
For now I'll stay. However, if the subscriptions or the OGL change in any way that will cost me more money, I'm gone. You will be basically holding everyone's Homebrew hostage. Charging for a VTT subscription (once you get it going) is fine with me. If you want my group to ever use it though, it better be good and inexpensive an without an AI DM.
One D&D is dead to me now too. I'll stick with 5E. It was designed for people that loved the game, not for greed.
Cancelled my Master subscription today! And won't be coming back until you realize that the company realizes that what makes a company work is the customers who buy your stuff. I have already bought the items that I need to continue my hobby without your pathetic attempts to make it as cool as a video game. You forget . . . . THIS IS NOT A FRAGGING VIDEO GAME! It is a TTRPG! Which means all I really need are some pens, paper, dice, and players to play my fantasy world with me. Yes, I am a DM! And as a DM I will no longer be purchasing anything from WotC/Hasbro ever again. Because as the executives put it . . . ". . . they are only obstacles." Well, this obstacle is now removed from you getting my $$$$!
This https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1423-an-update-on-the-open-game-license-ogl is the most insincere thing I've read on this site. (1) The original OGL already allows WotC to strip a creator making hateful content of their rights to publish under the OGL (2) Hasbro themselves are selling Power Ranger NFTs. Give me a break. (3) Hasbro/WotC is the major corporation in the RPG sphere; a $750,000 cap is targeting Kickstarters, not "major corporations." You just "accidentally" slipped in a legal clause (reviewed by expensive legal counsel) to give you ownership of creatives' work published under the new license? You're not fooling anyone.
In light of WotC/Hasbro continuing to be a bad actor, I have submitted a customer service ticket to have my DnDBeyond account deleted.
I also canceled a Stranger Things boxed set on order for my nephew with my FLGS (he's excited to run his first campaign for his friends).
Refuse to support any bad actors in the RPG sphere, and now that includes Hasbro/WotC.
The fact that you throw away feedback hoping to keep it out of the forums, or emails, etc, is the biggest kicker for me. I am not resubscribing until the execs are GONE and we are treated like valued customers, rather than obstacles to their money. I was going to accept the now known to be facetious PR statement before I saw that you incinerate surveys. That's right folks, they never actually read your feedback surveys. If you ever have something to say, say it on the forums where they have no choice but to put up with it. Heck, email them directly, tweet it at them too. Do it through every form they saw fit to try and keep you away from. Never let them ignore us again.
To think of the backlash and concern that came up during the 80's and 90's about D&D being a game of satanic worship, and how even that didn't push people away. People knew that the ability to become a fantasy hero anywhere and anytime was special and something no one can take away.
Now, look at you, WoTC. You've driven away so many of your customers with this little stunt, and instead of realizing that mistake and backing out (in order to gain back your customers' money and trust), you're trying to negotiate. That's fine. You're allowed. But I think it's pretty clear what the people want, and I don't think any of us actually NEED you. Because you can't own "core mechanics", and just because you say you're "allowing" us to use those core mechanics, doesn't mean you ever had a choice in the matter. People were already IN, and according to my personal experience, the community has only been getting bigger and stronger in the past couple of years. I, myself just recently decided I'm going to start spending some real cash and pour into this franchise in order to support it, and now I'm actively telling people to not give you money because you gone done effed up. Your company has been growing and instead of being grateful to this turn of events and your growth, you decided it's not enough (and right before the release of your movie!).
I'm dumbfounded by this arrogance and greed, and I keep coming back to write because I still hope against hope that you will finally open your eyes and get to see the truth (I call it Realvision, because "Truesight" isn't working for me anymore for some reason). You dug yourself such a hole, I don't even know if you can get out of it.
#OpenDnD I canceled my DNDB subscription and do not plan on renewing. I also just filled out the survey for the 1.1 it is very unfavorable and I for one will not be signing it. ORK and 1500 contributors are the next step.
First you game up on licensed localisations because or controlfreak nature of your corporation. Now you did this. Developing my own system veery different from DnD vanilla fantasy. Thank you, +1 perpetual DM is free with a good reason.

You may try to charge us for the platform we use to dream, but you will find we simply... dream elsewise.
