A couple of months ago, a number of banned users were using multiple different accounts to private message me as much rude nonsense and curse words as they could about how my opinions were bad and how I was apparently an idiot. Though these messages were obviously ridiculous, they were also quite tiring and unpleasant and made me slightly concerned about taking about D&D as much, because I would likely be attacked this way more.
Due to this, I think it's clear that there should be options to filter from whom you may receive private messages. For instances, the following options would be great: A way of turning of private messages, a way of stopping temporarily or permanently banned users from messaging you, an option to stop people from messaging you depending on their post count (to stop sock puppets), and a list of users who are exceptions to this blocking for one way or another.
If a message doesn't go through, the sender could always automatically be alerted of this in case their reasons were legitimate. Anyways, I was wondering whether or not this would be a terrible idea, since I feel it's a pretty big issue and I've been sitting on this for quite a while.

You can permanently ban users from PMing you by “ignoring” them, and you can report abusive PMs the same way you can report forum posts.
Yeah, but I have to go to the message and the user account to ignore someone. Additionally, it's not very effective because - as I said in the original post - some users are likely just creating multiple accounts to parrot the same sentiment, which means that you can only stop yourself from receiving messages from a user after they give you one.
Also, I have reported users. The issue is I need to read through some of the pretty awful remarks in order to determine whether or not they are rules breaking or not. Also, on some occasions, I've reported messages several times and still gotten private messages by the same user several times more before they got banned, which does not leave me confident in a quick response to problematic private posting.
Anyways, thank you for taking time to try and see if you could do anything to help. Your dedication to these forums is much appreciated.

If they’re PMing you and you don’t want them to you don’t have to read anything, I believe it’s automatically harassment in that case. That same user tried that crap with me, I reported the bejeepers outta them and once the Mods were done with them they never bothered me again from any account. Just report every instance of a PM and after three of them they get a temp ban. After enough of them they get a permanent ban. It may not be quite what you’re asking for, but it’s at least something.

Yeah, that's definitely a good idea; I'll try it out if I start receiving the PMs again. It'a not perfect and optional filters would definitely be much better, but this system is better than the previous one by a lot.
