Spells is a mess right now. Why there no ritual tab, why metamagic in completely othere place, why there no quick option to On/Off this "scaling with spell slot level" function, why my spell list completely flooded with spells from Magic Items that my character not only did't attuned, but even can't possibly use (My Sorcerer has Fochlucan Bandore).
From Starting on Combat 1. Tap navigation bubble 2. Tap Features and Traits 3. Scroll down to Metamagic 4. Tap a slot as needed 5. Tap navigation bubble 6. Tap Spells 7. Scroll down to the level you want to cast 8. Cast Spell 9. Tap navigation bubble 10. Tap Combat
Yep 100% agree with this, using smaller tablet myself (7'' one), and now Beyond Character list on it just terrible. On phones it's not great too. Desctop is good at least, i gues.
All and all, this is an AWESOME update! Space is so much better utilized, and everything just feels so much more intuitive and natural.
A few suggestions: - If I have the sheet up on a desktop and it's resized to about half the screen width (I snap a lot of things with Windows to either side), if the sidebar was already up, the button to put it away doesn't appear. I have to full-screen the browser window to make it reappear, hide the sidebar, then resize the window again. - I'd love the ability to rearrange things like inventory items and combat options.. For instance, for whatever reason my Unarmed strike is near the bottom of my list, but as a Monk, I'd love it right on top.. I don't see an option for that at the moment. - Speaking of Monks, Unarmed Strike is listed as an Action in the Actions section, but the text lists the generic 1+STR info. There doesn't seem to be any reference to the Monk's Martial Arts modifiers, either in the Unarmed Strike listing or elsewhere in the Actions section. - I personally think the window that lists Equipment and Combat stuff is a little short, and only shows a few items without scrolling.. this seems like something that ought to have a little more head room? That may just be me.
I'm sure this stuff will be polished even more in the coming weeks and months - this is such a terrific release and is already incredibly well oiled, considering how new it is! Thanks folks!!
Swashbuckler features refer to SCAG even though I purchased and use it from XGtE. If I export to PDF or want to refer to it otherwise, the page reference is to SCAG which I don't own. I instead own XGtE, thus the page reference is useless. It should note both sources or somehow look at which product that content was purchased from.
Looks great! Though spells of the "Wand of Wanders" look out of place in the spells section - you can't really cast any of them at will (because just one random effect occurs, you can't select the spell you would like to cast), so they only distract you from your real spells. It would be great if it was possible to remove them from the list using filters or something.
I love that you now support the hexblades weirdness. However there is one small thing. The hexblade Improved Pact Weapon feature should turn my weapon into a +1 and it does not. It's not hard to add it, but I need to remember.
Thanks for the amazing changes.
That is currently a bug and it is known. What you can currently do is click on the weapon in your equipment and use the Customize feature to add a +1 to hit and damage.
I can't figure out how to add the +1 modifier to attack in the customize section?
Can anyone offer help?
Also is there a way to make the information you type into the snippet or description section show up on the notes portion of the combat view?
Go to the combat screen, select your pact/hex weapon.
Below the weapon description there is a button for customize, click on that and it brings up the customization screen. Put a 1 in both the ‘to hit’ and damage bonus.
For wizards under manage spells. There is an add section to add or remove spells. But under the spell book section it allows for controls to be removed. It is too easy to click on prepare for a first level spell then click on a cantrip by accident and remove it. The clerics have spells marked as always prepaired. Cantrips could be marked this way.
It does kinda suck that there is no option for the original layout. I too also found the old layout WAY better for referencing. It's also as I stated and made the point of before; You may have spent 200 dollars on all the books, but the second they change anything and you no longer like it, you're told to - Deal with it.
That right there is the biggest gripe for digital. Luckily, it was only the character sheet for which I don't pay a sub for anyway, so I could care less. I did purchase the three main digital books when they were cheap as a reference tool though. I would be more ticked off if they attempt to change them instead of the character sheets since I purchased those as they were.
Can you imagine purchasing the core books in hard-copy, and then having a representative from the publishing house come along and scribble nonsense into it; or change the layout of all the pages... And tell you to deal with it? People would be Pi$$@& right off.
So really, unless they change the core books that people paid for, I would say just don't pay any monthly subscription and use another medium like fantasy grounds or roll 20 if that is the attitude of the company.
The books are good for referencing tools. I've found a bit of use out of them speeding things up. But to be honest, I never use the adventures. I only ever use the DM's guide and the players handbook. I even wish I hadn't purchased the monsters manual since I have it all in hard copy anyway. I find it easier having the page open in front of me or for the monster rolled up in roll20 and ready to go. I even use the character sheet in roll 20 more than I do here anyway.
My feedback is this. Instead of telling people to "Deal" with it. which is a piss poor attitude. Why not say it's something you could look into. Giving them the option of a layout they prefer. Or at least explaining why that can't happen - and really, anything is possible. It's just about allowing people choice... Something a game called Sword Coast legends failed to do. They told their customers to "deal" with it as well if I remember correctly.
As a player who has to mains a Beast master ranger and a warlock pact of the chain would be great to have a companion section for easier reference but the new layout rocks much better than before.
I understand why people are upset; this is a super big change and change is difficult. It takes time to adapt to something new. But it's not like this was just sprung on people! DDB was pretty transparent about the development process. The new sheet is based on lots and lots of feedback (from a thread just like this one, in addition to play tests and focus groups) and the monthly dev updates included previews of the sheet. I understand that it feels like this was foisted upon us, but it really wasn't.
I would really challenge those who are having such strong negative reactions to this to try to look at whether the problem is really that the new sheet is unintuitive and poorly organized or if it's just different. It might take a little bit of time to learn where things are, and I get different people have different accessibility needs, but I really think that if y'all give this sheet a chance you're going to find lots to like about it. Definitely make a point of experiencing the new sheet in play if you can!
(The one really fair critique I've seen is that the desktop version seems like information overload. I don't necessarily feel that way, but I do get it. I really do.)
I also don't think that the official line on this is "deal with it." That's a really unfair and uncharitable read of what folks like BadEye have actually said. The DDB team has made it clear that they're listening to (and incorporating!) feedback. Maybe y'all can't go back to the old sheet, but if you take the time to share constructive feedback, it will be listened to! Angry, reactive rants that amount to "I'M LEAVING AND NEVER COMING BACK" don't really accomplish much, other than maybe--maybe--making you feel a little better for a split second. Certainly isn't going to help you accomplish getting a character sheet that works for you.

Admittedly when I first looked at this, I was mad. "This is rubbish, I can't believe they screwed us over like this.", but after a night of moderate drinking while playing some 0D&D and then some sleep, I took another look at it this morning. There are many perks to the new design, I especially like the breakdown tabs under action, being able to click through bonus and reactions will help. I know I frequently forget about these and usually have one or two index cards I keep with me as reminders. Unlike many, I like seeing spells available at higher level, it's made me aware of some spells that I didn't even consider were scalable (looking at you blindness/darkness, had I known you would have saved our party some HP a few weeks ago!). So it's still a WIP, but overall I don't think it's too bad.
My input for updates would be:
- There should be a separate tab for Ritual spells
- Side bars should show the text near the cog when opened. Shouldn't have to scroll to the top of the main page to see that info.
- Sidebars need to be easier to close (like Esc key or something)
- Could they have made the text for the XP a little bigger? Some of us are old and even with cheaters on that's still hard to see!
- Initiative and AC should always be visible. They should not be isolated to the Combat tab.
- Take out some of the space in the Skills (after the skill) and that would allow that box to shrink to allow more space for the combat and feature boxes, which would eliminate some scrolling.
- Could some features/traits have a toggle that actually applies the modification to stats? For example, Sacred Weapon adds +4 to attack rolls, why can I not turn that on and have it applied to any wielded weapons?
- The items listed in the Other (under Actions) seem like they should be placed in more logical sub-tabs, Divine Smite is hidden away as is Extra Attack.
I've been using the site since release day, so this change is hard, but I think most will overcome it. There are a few bugs/spelling issues that will go in that thread, but I like the convenience of not having to use pencil and paper too much to leave now.
long rest should not have reset option and there should not be a countdown to confirm it. I know its been implemented for people that hit it by accident but it worked fine before please change back
If you could include things to show the raised armor class for a a bladesinger or when a shield spell is used, that would be awesome. Other than that it looks great!
As I stated earlier, I think the new sheet came out great. It shows you guys put a lot of time and effort into it, and I've pretty much just been sitting here playing with it at any given chance out of pure enjoyment.
Here's a question that may have been covered, but I was curious. I was wondering if party effects from other campaign members would ever be something implemented. To be specific as to what I mean, say a bard uses their bardic inspiration on another character. Is there a way that the sheet can identify that the campaign has a bard in it, and as such has a section for effects from other players where bardic inspiration can be checked off? Just an example, and I was curious if that's a possibility for sometime down the road (I imagine such a thing would take a bit of time and work to do).

So there.
It is so bad I regret the money I have paid to purchase dndbeyond.

All good.
The Senses box lists my character's Darkvision of 180 ft, but there's no way to add Warlock's Devil's Sight to that as a custom object.
I suppose I could put it as a value for Truesight, but an option to add a custom sense would be nice.
I hate forum signatures.
Stealth is missing from background skill proficiencies, even with the PHB from the marketplace.
It doesn't show up with custom background or urchin background.

This was probably because my class already had stealth as a feature.
May I suggest including unavailable skills like that in dropdowns, but unselectable?

bug report:
UTF-8 isn't handled correctly when exporting character sheets.
For instance, the "⊙" looks like "Ž" when I view the PDF.
(The ⊙ stands out better as a bullet point, but I'll use "*" for now.)

It appears that Human's have lost the ability to pick their extra language for character creation.
