Looks like it's been a month or two since someone asked this, time for a new thread.
DDB has the ability to create homebrew sub-classes, spells, magic items, and monsters. However a glaring omission from this is (other than the ability to create homebrew mundane items), is the ability to create entirely new classes for D&D 5e. It is entirely within the spirit of the game that we make our own worlds, monsters, and the right to fiddle with, and break our own games. The official WotC content is barely the tip of the iceberg of 5th edition content, and restricting ourselves to the publisher's content is a travesty to our games.
What class content could I be referring to? Well let me list a couple that I've used in games, and look forward to using in future games:
ENWorld has a Patreon based newsletter that regularly posts content for 5e, including classes. They recently did a kickstarter for a collection of 7 of those classes, and you can get the book here: A Touch of Class
Mage Hand Press (previously "Middle Finger of Vecna") has an enormous collection of sub-classes, and entirely new classes: Mage Hand Press They also have a Patreon feed, with exclusive content for that.
Many many many many more than I can list here. (except for dndwiki, that site is terrible, don't use it)
Finally, D&D Beyond is currently the only D&D 5e officially licensed tool set that does not allow for the creation of homebrew classes. Wait, did you not know that D&D Beyond isn't the only official licensed tool set for 5th Edition D&D? Nope, they are just the latest to receive a license. Roll20 has officially licensed 5th Edition content, and have had the ability to create/support custom classes since day 1. Fantasy Grounds has officially licensed 5th Edition content, and has the ability to create custom classes. Additionally, Hero Labs and Dicecloud, while not officially licensed, allow you to create custom classes for 5e OGL content.
Since the character creation UX update, D&D Beyond has become (in my opinion), one of the best experiences for managing character content at a table. It's too bad they're missing out on this tiny feature that would make them the best character manager, for all D&D, and not just what WotC says is "D&D".
The development team is quite aware of the request for this feature.. There are conflicts and challenges within the builder that would need solutions prior to implementing this change.
It is being reviewed; Any updates will be relayed as they occur.
For real why has this not been addressed yet this is like the #1 most wanted thing (for me at least) and #2, which this guy also asked about, was the ability to create mundane items.
