I was watching the recent development update and I noticed that Virtual Tabletop was a card...and...it was said that if it made it here it was a for sure unless the folks didn't want it. When I think of VTT, I think of Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds. Is this truely planned, and if so... this would be fantastic as long as the feature set was robust!

A little bit of nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men... - Willy Wonka
It sure looks like Virtual Tabletop is on the trello roadmap to me!
As Adam said on the stream, they have a massive load of (really cool) ideas for functionality and the stuff on Trello is just the currently prioritised development queue.
There are waaaay more ideas further out, some of which the community has been asking for, some of which .... I doubt the community even thought was possible, but it'll happen and it will be amazing!
I would love if it could quickly move maps from adventure books onto the VTT and monster and player icons. If it can at least do that, fog of war, track initiative, and custom maps/icons, it will be as good as I use roll20 for.
I'd love for them to make a VTT as well, but they actually SHOULDN'T make one yet. They have other resources they need to make first, like encounter builders and a fully functional and intractable character sheet. Those projects naturally build into a VTT experience, baby steps at a time.

It was on the list, but in the 3rd teir... so, it will get made but not before a lot of other stuff.

I just want the simplest version for local gaming; ability to use their digital maps in the DDB adventures on my flat screen. Any advice for an alternate to GIMP/Fantasy Grounds/Roll20 for gaming locally on a flat screen? Just using the TV with Plexiglas on it to game on with the maps and fog of war. FG is complex and clunky for something so basic (don't care about character and spell tracking; just the scaled one inch digital map and fog of war). Same for Roll20. GIMP is fine, but sometimes it's easy to reveal too much when removing the fog of war.
Roll20 has a map-only mode to show the map separately without the chatroom. Maybe use that?

I would love to see one come available for Android because I am tired of being left out of all of the campaign's on Lost caverns because I don't have a computer and roll20 refuses to upgrade their stuff for mobile players to play

I guess roll20 care about mobile users using their site as much as they care about white males using it.
MapTools + DnD Beyond is what my group uses. MapTools for the VTT, and DnD Beyond for the character sheet. Works great for us.
We had played around with roll20 and FG - spending a bit of time with FG - however, the inflexible UI of FG made it nearly impossible for the PCs to use it to its fullest potential on anything but a large monitor (desktop) or multiple screens (laptop). We also had issues with FG's Mac support as it seems to run a sort of OS emulator and significantly downgrades the experience on a Mac.
Admittedly, the requirement to write your own code for MapTools can be daunting, but the language is not all that difficult, and the community support is excellent. We especially like the dynamic vision/lighting of MapTools, ability to create campaign repositories in the Cloud (Google Docs or DropBox), and reasonably low computer and network requirements.
is there anything new about developing of virtual tabletop
They are adding dice rolling to DDB, does that count? A full VTT with maps and tokens is pretty low on the list of new features to add. An encounter tracking tool (initiative and HP, etc) is also nearly done.
If you happen to own an iPad I can only recommend encounter+ it is awesome for dming locally and projecting maps on a tv. It also has a lot of other great functionality (ini tracking, dice roller in the monster stats and much more). I use it for dming all the time now and it is relatively easy to use as well.

Agreed.
If I can get away from Roll20 and use this product, perfect. Why purchase two products? Plus, they NEVER discount their stuff...

Army-man (US Army), Policeman (LAPD), Fireman (LAFD), son/brother/husband/father GAMER = been there, done that, doing it! :)

They should consider partnering with Foundry VTT. It's much better than Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds, and infinietly less greedy.
With the Beyond20 module and extension, DDB is directly integrated, and it's an amazing experience.
