I second the desire of being able to share Homebrew Content I have created with people in my Campaign, but not publicly. I would get a subscription for this feature alone.
Isn't this how private homebrew works? i.e can't you already do this for free?
You're correct - this is exactly what private homebrew does and it's absolutely free!

Welllllll....not "exactly". Homebrew (regardless of whether its private or public) can only utilize the SRD even if you've purchased books (this primarily means that items which cast spells are severely hampered). And that's the issue we were discussing.
This is just an observation and followed up by a suggestion/question.
I've noticed that in general for spells they are listed in alphabetical order by default and I love the additional filters and everything else that are there for searching but I feel some of it is less noticeable than other parts..
Another observation is that for the homebrew spells a lot of the ones that get looked at are the default page (meaning whatever spells start with A or aa etc). Just curious how many spells that are being used start with A B or C versus those starting with letters other than A B or C. Are people using words that begin with Aa or A to simply get more of their spells on the default page?
My question is could Curse just switch the default between the assorted filters you have by default unless you choose a default setting? Meaning don't bring it up with the same default every single time, unless someone sets a preference. I would also like to say it took me a bit to realize you could just click on add/views/level etc and sort everything differently (the symbols are small and do not stand out). Or figure out something else to display by default...like highlighted random spells or something (shrugs, just ideas).
Might be interesting if you guys look into it and see what users are looking at and what is the distribution of homebrew spells in the higher region of the alphabet versus lower. Could just be a lot of words begin in that range too i guess. Just curious.
A lot of pages in this thread, my only feedback currently for homebrew is the ability to provide feedback to the creator on their listing. Whether it be spelling/grammar/organization, or mechanics .
Unsure if it would be best to be completely public feedback, or completely private, or if it's possible to do a hybrid. In the public side, can have a log saying "x users submitted feedback based on [category:Formatting, Mechanics, Flavor]"
At the least doing it privately keeps the listing uncluttered, but allows feedback to still be provided to the creator without them creating a forum post.

Maybe a quick PM form of some kind that is on the item and populates a comment to the author like "RE: Homebrew monster #12345" then you can write what you like afterwards. Feedback is helpful to improve homebrew quality.
I'd also suggest an option to "opt in" for updates. right now the system is a person creates a homebrew to share and you can add it to your homebrew list. But if the creator makes an update or improvement those who have added it to their list stay on the previous version until they manually update it. It would be nice if you could just opt into automatically update the content or at least get a useful notification of the update.

I hadn't subbed yet to get to add things, if that's the case then that's a good quality-of-life point.

With some major caveats... You can't create a homebrew item that includes purchased spells, you can't use purchased content as a template for homebrew, and you can't include homebrewed spells in a homebrewed item, even for private sharing in a campaign. I know the staff is working on a way to meet all our needs, and I have the utmost faith that they will be willing and able to make this work for us.
A solution that appears simple from the user side of things - I have zero sense of what it would take on the development side - would be to start the flow with a question, private or public? If public, all the purchased content is locked out. If private, it's shared with the campaign just like the purchased content in its original form is. I've seen other folks' suggestions of making that content redirect to the marketplace for people who don't have the content. I'm fine with that too, but it sounds like it might be more work since some of the things in our homebrew might be pretty deeply embedded. (Again, not one of the Curse wizards who have made all of this magic happen already, so I could be talking out my aasimar...)
Thats just leveling monsters. Basically more to hit bonus or damage bonus adds cr and the same is true for life and hp. So its easy to do. So sure they will do it. But that would require a bit of work as it would need automated calculations.

I think we're talking about 2 different topics: creating homebrew and sharing homebrew. What you mentioned are definitely things to consider on the creation end. When it comes to sharing, though, they are no longer an issue as the homebrew is already created. Obviously, you can't share what you can't make, but, SteelBraxus was asking about sharing content that's already been made, unless I completely misread the post I originally responded to. If it's made, it can be shared for free.

I don't think you misread him at all. I just thought it important to mention that homebrew, while shareable privately through a campaign even without a subscription, is still limited in its functionality even if you purchase content from here. I really appreciate the work BadEye and the gang have done and are continuing to do here. It's my Carthago moment.
Id also like a filter for homebrew to be filtered by last updated or created date. Because going back to the whole base to see whats new is really annoying.

I would also like to have the ability to use purchased content and homebrew spells in homebrewed items for at least private use. I thought I wasn't doing something right, but then discovered it was something that wasn't available.
i would also like to see some more documentation at some point about the homebrew area, it's not always obvious what certain options do. For example, I thought using "Set" and then "Armor Class" would allow me to change the base AC for a piece of armor but it doesn't work like that. I also thought changing the max DEX to AC lower than the original item would be possible, but it seems to do nothing currently.
Obviously they are prioritizing certain things and I know they will make improvements as they have all along, this is definitely something I would like to add my voice to though.
So based on what I have read in this topic it sounds like when the ability to create homebrew classes that you will not be able to add any published spell, not in the basic rules, as a spell for that class weather its a private homebrew or not. It also seems that using homebrew stuff with paid for stuff will be unnecessarily difficult to accomplish. It isn't enough for us customers to have paid for any of the content on DndBeyond is most likely buying the same stuff a second time - I know I have as I have bought physical copies of every book WotC has released for 5e already, and now I am paying for content I apparently cannot use as part of any sort of homebrew creation. I don't mind manually entering data (even if I've paid for it) as long as they add the much-requested Homebrew Classes and Homebrew Races. I'm DMing an Adventures in Middle-earth Campaign, and that makes D&D Beyond's uses very limited to us until those features are added. I love the tools so far, and will continue to use what is available.

Pray they don't alter it any further...
I understand your frustrations, but I do believe they will find a solution, they just can't work on everything all at once. The big issue is that they have to work within the license agreement with WotC so they have to bring the feedback to them, then figure out potential solutions, then get the legal teams involved to alter the license agreements. This can take months (if not longer). So the idea is they might be working on it, but they are trying not to get our hopes up for a quick solution.

from what i read and understood its when creating homebrew from stuff in the free content you can share those homebrew creation... if you create homebrew with stuff from books you need to buy like player handbook/DMs /monsters /volo's/SCAG then you can create them but cant share your homebrew content
Since there currently is no way to customize an item, it should be allowed to create a homebrew item from an existing item type, like a book. This way we can port in the specific item and have notes tied to the what the item is.

Currently, you can't use any non-free content for any homebrew. Numerous solutions have been put forward, including the one you describe.
