Is there a way to make char sheets (or at least portions of it) hidden from other players within the same campaign? For example, I have a player whose background reveals a treasonous behavior, but the rest of the players have no idea about it. If they learn about this, the RP part could be biased because of this knowledge, and I would like to avoid this sort of metagaming.
I'm curious how this will work as well. Within a campaign, I'd expect that other players see a limited amount of info from each others sheets, with the DM having full access, including the ability to modify.

So, I just tried this out, and it seems that other players cannot see the detailed char sheets from other players. Only the DM can have access to the details of the PC. The players can only see the name, lvl and class of the other characters.
I've read through the forums and there is a lot of good feedback/ideas here; kudos to the moderators and those taking the time to post.
I need a little bit of clarification though, sorry if this is duplicated elsewhere.
After players join my campaign, will I be able to keep NPC's hidden from them? Maybe designate an NPC as such so players can't see it. If I add public or private notes will the invite link change? Is there a time frame for the enhancements to the Campaign Manager tool? Will there be an opportunity before the go live date to see a "print preview" of the character sheets?
Overall I am super enthused about the quality of the product and can't wait to for the go live date - thanks all!
I can't say for sure, but I don't think so. Right now the campaign manager is meant as a way for DM tier subs to share content and DMs to view/customize characters (the groundwork of the campaign manager). Most of the best campaign management tools will be post-release features.
Okay, thanks. Mostly asking because there's not much of a reason to keep hanging around here every day if there won't be anything new to test. Looking forward to the 15th!
I think someone already mentioned Obsidian Portal as an example of a campaign manager. Just wanted to echo that I think something like that would be a great addition to DDB. As it is set up now, I use spoilers in the notes to help organize things. If nothing else, would it be possible to nest spoilers? That way I could at least use the setup to do something like:
I may have missed this, but it seems like you can't save any of the Monsters, Items, or even Spells as favourites so you can quick reference them. This would be a particularly useful feature if paired with the Campaign Management.
As a new DM and new to D&D myself I can see this would be really useful for new DMs and would take the weight of remembering lots of stats off of them so they can focus on running a smooth and fun game.

I believe this may be something in the works. I do know it has been requested quite a bit.
I am not even sure how you are supposed to manage running the big published adventures like Storm King's Thunder. It does not sound like there is a way to make bookmarks, highlight, or make notes. It would seem that being able to at least make bookmarks would be a must. How you keep track of where you are especially when you need to flip around from section to section?
Hello, I've read through this thread, and I fully understand that there are new tools and fully realized features to come for the campaign manager which I'm very much looking forward to. So I have just a small suggestion that might make a big difference. It may already be implemented, and I might just have missed it.
When viewing a player character sheet in my campaign, it would be nice to be able to flip to another character sheet without having to click back, or go to the my campaign menu option. I'm thinking of something as simple as a "Next Character", "Previous Character" navigation, or a drop down list of characters currently in the campaign.

That's all! Thanks!
I just right-click and "Open in new tab". That's what I do for monsters and some other rules when I'm running a game, too. You can have as many tabs as your browser of choice allows (which is more than I can mentally juggle, IME).
While I agree that is one option, it's nice to be able to switch sheets more easily. This also likely won't be available to do on the app when that's released which is something we'd need to keep in mind.

Tai-Ruth is how you pronounce it, or just Tai for short :)
I was kinda whiny when the campaign manager was finally accessible, and then it was nothing but a place to connect and a few simple notes. Then, after reading some updates, I realized it was like the LEAST developed part of the beta and that there is more to come and calmed down.
In the meantime, I've figured out how to make it work for my purposes. It is great for a session at least. So what I do is right the bulk of my session in Word, so I can save it. I include syntax for monsters and items. Then, as the last touch, I paste it over to the site.
Locations are headers. I put "read-aloud" text in block quotes (as I'm sure was the intention) such as dialogue and description. Then I have two section categories.
"What is in the room" and "What (NPC) knows." These are bullets for quick reading and to keep things simple.
Then set check types and DC, but I put the info those checks reveal as a spoiler, so what info is readily available and what can be discovered doesn't get confusing for me. If they make the check and succeed, I open the spoiler and reveal to myself the information.
Anyway, even the "bare-bones" that are there now are pretty useful and I plan to continue to use it despite having complained, and I super look forward to it getting built out.
As far as feedback, here is what I am looking forward to:
- Pop-linking (or whatever it's called) to Homebrew content.
- And tabs for notes. CityofBrass.io is a beautiful manager, but it's pretty complicated. A tabs system(In the vein of in OneNote) would be awesome.
- Also, a way to make NPCs, either quick builds or just a modified version of the Character builder.
Great job guys, seriously. This is making it easier to connect as a community. I love what you've done here and I can't wait 'til August 15th.
A section for NPCs, each with its own subsection; that subsection having places to put things like name, description, personality (traits, ideals, etc.), and a link to the NPC's stat block (which will be tooltipped automatically); the ability to set exactly how much information the PCs see (and set different information for each PC), including details as major as the NPC's existence and as minor as a single subclause of one of the NPC's personality traits, as well as the ability to show some or all PCs false information; and, of course, the ability to manage the NPC's resources, such as HP and spell slots.
Edit: And location, which would of course be integrated with the maps you've promised us.
This is just my point of view, after 35 years of gaming, I know only one software capable of carrying all the tools indispensable to the management of a campaign. A tool designed for the fourth edition of dungeon and dragon.
Masterplan
Yes I'm glad someone mentioned this. I still use Masterplan with 5E for developing homebrew settings. Like you it's the only tool I've found that has everything I want: easily navigable libraries of NPCs, Locations, Quests, monsters etc (but most importantly NPCs).
They are all easily connected by either hyperlinks, maps or flowcharts.
I'm excited about D&D Beyond, pleased with what it has so far and I am looking forward to how seeing how it develops. For a paid DM service though, the features are going to have to be very very god indeed for me to sign up/

I showed an image of masterplan to Staff a few months ago, and they made me squee with glee when they said the combat generator/initiative tracker will be similar, if not better, than masterplans. As for obsidian portal, DDB staff has said that they're planning on making the campaign management similar in capability to what is on that site. These are post-release plans, but I'm excited to see them come to fruition.

I hate Obsidian Portal. It's a terrible site. "Capability" isn't a word I'd use to describe anything about it.

Maybe already mentioned, but my idea of an encounter/combat manager is found at http://improved-initiative.com
Combine that with connection to dndbeyond database of monsters, characters, spells, and compendium, and I'd be all set.
