This website is not owned by the same company that publishes D&D. This website is more like an online bookstore that only sells digital D&D books. And they made all of these additional tools like the character builder for us to use for free with the materials we purchase. The company that runs this website has to follow a specific contract with the company that publishes the game, Wizards of the Coast. They have no choice. They can only include the contents of the Basic Rules & SRD for free. In order to unlock the Drow, either that race, or the PHB as a whole must be purchased.
If you are dissatisfied with the contents of either the Basic Rules, or the SRD, you should direct your feedback to WotC.
Sorry I was not as clear as I should have been. The Drow are not an option on the generated character sheets on this page. There have been several issues where people only have the choice of three sub-races to play under Elf. The fix was told to one player to logout of the websight then log back in as there is supposed to be 12 sub-races of Elves as options to generate a character. This fix does not work.
Those subraces you are referring to are not part of the D&D 5th edition SRD and will need to be unlocked from the marketplace before you can use them on D&D Beyond character sheets.
You may also purchase individual races, subclasses, feats & magic items from the marketplace - should you later wish to purchase the sourcebook that they came from, any such individual purchases are fully discounted from the price of the sourcebook. You are also welcome to create your own content using the D&D Beyond homebrew tools.
Where in the marketplace do you find the Drow? I have found it in homebrew, but I can't add it as a usable subrace in the character creation
You either have to purchase the Player’s Handbook (“Full Version” NOT “Compendium Only”), or you can just purchase the race if you scroll down and look for it.
There’s no need to get so hostile, especially on a year-old thread where nobody has said anything directly to you.
If you are 100% sure you purchased the Player’s Handbook (or the Drow specifically) on this website, you should check your account page to make sure everything is in sync. Sometimes there’s a disconnect, but it should be fixable fairly easily.
Additionally, posting a problem on a thread already marked “resolved” makes people think all the problems were resolved, meaning people are usually going to ignore the thread.
Also, remember that their official name is Dark Elf, and that's what you need to look for in the character builder etc. Not drow. (though yes, under half-elf it's 'drow half-elf.' WYGD.)
First off I purchased the full version of the PHB and still can't make a DROW, so dry up with that. You keep saying the same garbage but it dose not fix the problem and by the way you cant buy it as a race either. I should be able to do what i can with every other sub race select it and USE IT! You should really know what your talking about before you get on here and run your mouths.
All advice provided here is correct, so please do not be hostile to other users.
The Dark Elf (Drow) subrace is available to use in the character builder if you have purchased either the full Player's Handbook, or the individual racial option. You will not be able to access it if you've only purchased the compendium.
To access the subrace in the character builder, you will need to select Elf, then Dark Elf (Drow) from the list of available subraces
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/players-handbook Scroll down until you see Dark Elf (Drow) as an individual purchase option. Then add it to your cart and buy it with a credit card or whatever. If you buy the whole PHB, that works too if you want everything from it.
Additionally, you you already own a physical copy of the PHB and don’t want to buy any of it “again”, you can recreate it in Homebrew for your own personal use if you have the experience with the Homebrew tools. If you want some help with that, check the Homebrew forum.

Why is one of the core races of DND hidden behind a paywall? I thought this was a tool to help players get into the game. WOTC never fails to amaze me with their greed
Why is one of the core races of DND hidden behind a paywall? I thought this was a tool to help players get into the game. WOTC never fails to amaze me with their greed
Because they're not a core race? Drow are an Elf subrace. Elf is the core race and it is not locked behind a paywall.
All core races are free. Those that have subraces have 2 subraces free.

Is it still possible to buy a race solo? I cannot find this option in the marketplace (anymore).
Thanks!
No, it is not.

Leaving out the Drow as a playable character race in a D&D edition based on Forgotten Realms is an epic fail. When will this be fixed?
NOTE: I found the post that says to logout and log back in but it still only reflects three sub-races listed under Elf.
Dark Elf (Drow) are in the Player's Handbook.

Maybe you're looking for Drow and not Dark Elf. On the builder Drow are listed as Dark Elves.
