I have the feeling that Fandom and the people here at DDB think somehow that if they break the ability to import the stuff from here into other VTTs like Roll20 and (in particular in this case) Foundry, somehow that'll make us use this site instead of our VTTs.
Nope. Not gonna happen. There is no VTT here to use, so people who need a VTT have to use a 3rd party. If DDB breaks Foundry, 1 of 2 things will happen to Foundry users. Either, like me, they will keep using Foundry and just hand-import whatever they need, or they will switch to a VTT that has all the books already, so they don't have to import things (like Roll 20 or Fantasy Grounds). This is not an ideal solution, but if you need a VTT, you can't just forego it.
I suspect the pencil pushers somewhere at the top at Fandom imagine that if their site is so awesome that if they give us a choice between it and Foundry or Fantasy Grounds, we'll choose them. I want to disabuse them of that notion. It's not. Foundry already does nearly everything, from a UI perspective, far, far better than DDB does. The Foundry guys seem to understand, from a fundamental design perspective, what a DM or a player would actually need, and they gave those things to us. Which is why after just one test, I've already switched to them for (a) making up new monsters, (b) encounter building, and (3) combat tracking. Literally all I use this site for anymore is to look stuff up, which I could do using my existing hardcover books... and importing player character data. Which is mostly to make things easier on my players.
Given how much better designed Foundry is from a user and especially a DM perspective, there is no way, if given the choice, I'd pick this site over Foundry. I'd rather hand type every page of the PHB, MM, and DMG into Foundry than give it up for this site, which won't let me do more than half the things I need to do as a DM (by contrast, Foundry lets me do 100% of the things I need to do as DM). I mean it's a no-brainer.
This whole thing strikes me as a Microsoft-style powerplay: We made an application people aren't using because other companies made something that does the same thing, but better... so rather than competing by improving our own product, let's make our application incompatible with all the others, because we're Microsoft, so we know people will use ours. We all know how well that worked for IE, right? It's the juggernaut because Microsoft made it, and browsers like Chrome, Safari, and Firefox got run out of the market. Oh wait...
So I get the idea that Fandom thinks DDB is the "juggernaut" and they're going to wipe out Foundry and maybe the other VTTs by doing this. It's not going to happen, and you might end up with your site as the RPG equivalent of Internet Explorer.

+1 My players and were both using import to FoundryVTT and we had the bad luck to figure the endpoint was broken during our game last night.
Aditionnaly, I found it useful for some manipulation of the character sheet for things custom to my game.
Ultimately I believe the “answer” we are looking for is along the lines of “is there a plan/direction that can be shared with the community about API-like functionality?”
Simply put, the combination of Foundry, VTTA and my purchased/subscription D&D Beyond content has truly revolutionized my gaming experience - and that of the eleven players in my campaigns, (six of which wouldn’t be playing D&D if it wasn’t for this triptych).
Foundry’s modular way of life is digital homebrew, a sandbox in the face of railroading alternatives. VTTA’s elegant and nimble methods allow me to make use of my purchased DDB content, and play D&D in the spirit to which I understand it. No more, no less. Please don’t remove this.

I love DnDBeyond, no question here. It's the reason I started playing again. And then GMing. Like many, got all the books here, even when I already had the hard copy. Got a subscription too.
Initially I used roll20 because the other VTTs were not for me. And then I moved to Foundry and all the modules supporting it. They are a work of passion and dedication to the DnD community. Their interaction with this site makes for the greatest experience (from both sides of the table). I've read in the past that DnDBeyond was not meant to be a VTT. That's fair, it doesn't need to be.
But please, don't remove your data endpoints or change them on such short notices. It's no good for anyone. It won't bring you more money, will give a few long nights to the most dedicated fans and in the end make a lot of people's gaming experience worse. That's not really your intention, right? :)

One of my players has already asked, can we just do all our updating and character stuff in Foundry? She likes it better anyway (and she has only used it once!). She's frustrated enough with the Beast Companion issues (I made a separate thread about that and there are no known solutions to it) and now this -- she's ready to just kiss DDB goodbye. After one day. She will not be the only one.
Come on Curse! We’ve rolled a nat 20 on our group persuasion check. Tell us what the DC was already!
You're only allowed to roll a Persuasion check if it has any chance of succeeding.
This is, almost certainly a corporate decision, made at the highest levels. The suits and ties have decided that it in their financial interest to block the endpoint data from being scraped into other systems. They think it will make them money; it doesn't matter if we don't like it, or even if we all think they are wrong (and I am sure they ARE wrong). So, if the pinheads in suits decided to do this at Fandom's highest corporate level, nobody on this board has any chance of succeeding at persuading them. It's like you're negotiating with the level 2 town guard to try and convince him to change the mind of the Lawful Evil king. Not gonna happen, no matter what you roll. It simply has no chance of succeeding (even if the true Neutral guard is persuaded, he has no ability to change the King's fiats).
Interestingly, this was implemented within days of Foundry going live/coming out of beta. Given that this change harms Foundry users most particularly, I can't help but wonder if it was a corporate decision to try and cut a competitor (Foundry) off at the knees -- a competitor who has gotten so many things right that DDB has gotten wrong (in terms of UI, ease of use, etc.). Maybe I'm reading too much into it but the timing is highly suspicious.
And yes, by the way, in case anyone thinks it was just a coincidence, I am implying (no, I'll state it outright) that I view Fandom as being run by a Lawful Evil person or group. You've gotta wonder what kind of a hit your PR has taken when one of your customers, upon thinking up how he would put your organization into D&D terms, judges its alignment to be "evil."

It was probably interfering with the API that DDB is developing.

And the absolutely excellent reason they had for (a) not telling us before turning it off, and (b) not responding to a 5-page-long, 2-day-old thread asking about it, would be.... what exactly?
Sorry, not changing my opinion. If I made Fandom up as an in-game guild in D&D, their leaders would all be Lawful Evil.

I am not encouraging you to change your opinion. Nor am I giving reasons for your (a) and (b) points. I was just offering up an idea as to what the motivation for disabling it in the first place might have been is all.
So as it stands now is there any way to copy a pc over from ddb to roll20, via like the old style of /json endpoint?
Someone posted the alternate method using the "character number" on page 1 of this thread. Unless DDB has blocked that also.
Im trying to use that now, but i think i may be missing something. doesnt help I havent used the import before either. Also to note I was able to have the json endpoint on other ddb pages just not the pc pages
When folks first started using json access for various things, the developers here warned that it wasn't supported, and that the structure was subject to change. So I'm not quite sure why so many of you are surprised that this has now happened, or why you invested so much money here solely because of an unsupported work around.

A. They didn't announce it, warn about it, or anything. Just did it and since... radio silence. For a couple of days now. It's not like they were unaware this was being used, whether it's "supported" or not. Nor have they provided any reason why it suddenly is not available, why the structure has changed, any of that.
B. I don't think people invested money because of an unsupported workaround.
